Well not exactly... The way Brian explained it is we can still sign him if we are over cap, but could only offer maximum of that year's contract. Roughly 4.2 mil or something.

That same rule would apply to whomever we trade him to

Don't believe that is true. They would have to have Cap space or use an exemption (which I suppose most would have)

I would like confirmation of this. Why wouldn't the restrictions transfer?

Brian is lurking and can chime in. Basically I believe we retain some rights even though not full. At any rate, we aren't trying to trade him anyways. We are hoping no one wants to spend more then 4.2 on him so we can keep him.

There are special rules with players being traded in the final year of their contact before they become free agents. Sometimes the same rules transfer sometimes they don't.

    Thread bump.

So what's the general consensus of the bench now? Kaman is back in his proper role, and playing well. CJ appears to grown comfortable in his spot as the backup 2 (9.5ppg on .475 FG since 3/15, .379 3P). Dorell Wright seems to be playing capably as the backup 3/4, and Blanky is firmly entrenched at the point. Is this a bench we can be confident in going into the playoffs?

Well I don't cringe when our starters come out. I actually enjoy seeing Wright this season. CJ looks great imp. Leonard has completely changed my opinion of him in a good way (still work in progress). Blake is a rock. Kaman is a much better pick up than I expected.

I'm confident our bench will be fine

Yup. I'm guessing the consistent mins has helped the guys a bit. Esp with CJ and Wright. Rest has done wonders for Kaman. Still don't like Blake but he will do in his minimal role.

Considering how shitty some of the other benches are and how good our starters are, we can roll with this with some semblance of confidence for sure.

Yeah the bench has been good. Sometimes they extend the lead. I could easily see one of Blake, Kaman, CJ, Wright having a key double digit scoring night in a playoff win. That was unthinkable two years ago. Blake does a great job setting up the offense even if he doesn't score.

Obviously the Wes' injury effected it dramatically. When Kaman is on, the bench as a whole plays much better offensively. He just needs to make sure he does not force anything. No traveling turn overs! Blake is steady. The wild card is Wright and CJ. If just one of them is hot (or even warm) on any given night....the bench does well.

You look at SA and GS and their benches are much better. But I think we compare OK the rest.

I'm glad to see CJ as the backup SG and very few minutes of Blake playing with Damian. That has improved the defense. When our starters are healthy it improves the bench a lot as well since Kaman or Wright aren't in the starting lineup. Plus they are playing minutes alongside one or two starters instead of with Gee and Meyers.

shout out to Joel Freeland who sets great screens and clogs the paint. With Freeland the bench gets stops. When Freeland and Kaman are on their game, we have a great tandom of bigs to keep fresh legs on the court.

Freeland makes a huge difference. I'm also really pleased with CJ lately, playing some decent D. When we first signed him I envisioned the 2-headed monster of CJ and Lillard at the end of games being really difficult to keep out of the paint, or make the big shot. It may come true.

More often than not, 6 guys in double digit scoring beats 2 guys with 20+

I think you mean two guys with 30 +
