I'm of the opinion that 95% of the dunks have now been done. The contest has turned into such a media frenzy and people expect great stuff and lately it's been dissapointing....It's VERY hard to do anything original anymore. Even if the best in the league would enter...I still don't think it would be that great, in my opinion thats why many of the leagues best don't go anymore...what are they going to do that is going to amaze everyone?

The NBA really screwed up the Dunk Contest by changing the format a few years ago. Last year, I believe Nate Robinson got 10-15 attemps on one of his dunks before he made it... he should get 2 at most.Besides the actual All-Star game, I think the dunk contest is still the featured event. I try to watch every year and I have to say that I'm always surprised by the new dunks players are doing. To say they've done 95% of the dunks possible is a high number - if someone has creativity and talent, anything is possible.

Almost forgot... Don't give the award for sympathy or because the guy is smaller. Amare Stoudemire had the contest won a couple years ago and the judges gave it to someone else (name escapes me now) that didnt' deserve it.

I disagree... These guys are still pulling new dunks outta their asses... As long as they're able to do that each year (and as mentioned - NOT give each person 10+ attempts) I'll continue to watch and be entertained.

And I dont really care if they do the same dunk Vince Carter may have done a couple years back....if I saw Gerald Green put his whole arm in the rim...ill still be freaking out.And the whole thing about big men is so overrated. Big men just have big men dunks, theres alotve big men who arent gifted athleticly that still dunk just cause they're tall. Amare Stoudemire and Dwight Howard ARENT that. They would be still dunking like crazy if they were 6'5, you cant say the same about a Tim Duncan and others. One of the first dunk contests(around the 70s...not alotve publicity) had Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in it. And he was doing reverses and stuff.I remember somebody saying that Hakim Warrick was wwwaaayyy to big to have a chance to win it last year, when the person who won it the year before was same height and weighed more.

Its very hard to come up with new stuff now. The usual "wow" stuff like the through the legs, free throw dunk, windmill, are all overplayed. People play around with the "oop" or the pass nowadays (Nash and Stoudemire) instead of the dunk. Which in IMO is not a dunk, its not the "creative pass" contest, its the dunk contest.

So does that mean you slept through the Iggy behind the back board dunk? I don't think that's boring at all. Although I do agree that the whole unlimited amount of tries needs to stop.

I guess you just dont enjoy seeing crazy dunks. Stuff like that excites me, especially very creative dunks. Maybe you just don't get excitement out of that stuff. I dont care if it's been done before - a great dunk is a great dunk..

I think it's no where near as exciting as it was before. It's still going to be the biggest highlight of the All-Star Saturday Night, but it's not as fun to watch anymore.Someone should do that statue of liberty this next All-Star Weekend.

You know what would spice the dunk contest up? The 60 second thing, where the player slams the ball nonstop for 60 seconds.

lmao the wheel! That sh*t was rigged.but the dunk contest will always be the prime event at allstar weekend (other then the allstar game).remember that one dunk contest where CHRIS ANDERSON got like 94375983749583 trys for 1 dunk? that was just straight horrific.guys like nate robinson, jricH, ect will have to pull somethin out their ass this year. there proly wont be anything new, but probably somethin like olley oops or something that hasn't been done... because there arent really anymore dunks to do...lol. but we'll see...what the hell can top an off the board thru the legs dunk by jrich?

I agree that the dunk contests have lost their sting, but they're still really impressive. BCB, don't tell me you weren't impressed by that Josh Smith dunk...it's still fun to see that.

It'd be 1000 times better if I could dunk myself though.
