The baseball industry isn't rich, its just extraordinarily competitive. Especially for the teams that fill their stadiums. IIRC MLB has no revenue sharing plan in place, which keeps the league unbalanced. It also helps that when you have 162 games (81 at home)in a year, and your seating in around 40,000 a game (atleast thats what its around at Comerica) then you can probably pay a player's contract in one game!

Don't you mean "Blue Jays pay Wells really well"? Haha. But yeah, that is an insanely high contract.

He is good in the field, very underrated, doesn't do to much wrong at all in the field. And offensively, I really believe he is the best offensive center fielder in the Majors these days. It's hard to argue with someone that batted .303 last year, hit 32 home runs and drove in 116 runs, and stole 17 bases this year. Maybe most of all that I like in 611 at bats, he struck out only 90 times which is not bad at all. I definately think he deserves that pay check he is getting, and very smart signing by the Blue Jays in my opinion.

He is very versitale, but I can see others who deserve that contract more than him. Carlos Beltran, Vlad Guerrero, etc.

He has more at bats per year than Beltran, meaning he will be in the lineup more often. Has a better batting average, drives in just as many runs as Beltran does, and in 100 more at bats, struck out 9 less times than Beltran this season. So he strikes out alot less than Beltran does, meaning he puts the ball in play more often forcing the defense to make plays. Wells also has a career fielding average of .993, which is ahead of Beltrans .984 career fielding average.

I meant insanely high on an absolute scale, not a baseball scale.
