http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentSe...ol=970081562040Raps could help move IversonDec. 15, 2006. 01:00 AMDOUG SMITHSPORTS REPORTERThe Raptors are trying to get in on the Allen Iverson trade sweepstakes.Armed with about $2 million (U.S.) in salary cap space and looking to improve an 8-14 team, the Raptors have been making calls for about a week trying to help facilitate a multi-team deal for the recalcitrant Philadelphia 76ers guard.Under the NBA's arcane salary cap rules, Toronto's surplus could help another team obtain Iverson. For instance, Toronto could trade a player making $3 million to Philadelphia or another team while taking back more than $5 million in salary from the Sixers or the other team. That would allow the other two teams to finalize an Iverson deal and satisfy cap rules.According to sources, Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo has contacted a handful of teams offering his cap space ? and players ? as a conduit for a deal. There have been no serious talks yet, but the longer Iverson sits idle, the more chances Colangelo will have to facilitate a deal. The Raptors would be looking for a proven scorer who plays either shooting guard or small forward in any trade. They are okay with a point guard tandem of T.J. Ford and Jose Calderon and more than satisfied with a big-man rotation of Chris Bosh, Andrea Bargnani, Rasho Nesterovic and Jorge Garbajosa.Thoughts: This can also be found on hoopshype.com by the way. But my thoughts are this is a great situation for the raptors to pick up a good player in a three way trade. We don't want Iverson but we want to help get Iverson out of the Atlantic and help us at the same time. Great job by the gm to jump right in there.

I really dont think we need Iverson. I sure as hell dont want to give TJ away, and a backcourt of TJ and AI simply would not work..

Because of Iversons large contract, it will be hard for any team to just pick him up in a two team deal. But because Toronto has 2 million in cap they can help the trade out by picking up a contract (a player) and give up very little. This is excelent because we aren't forced into anything (like having to use a pick at this time) so if something isen't benefical for us it won't happen.

Iverson is headed to Denver, and I'm sure there is a third team involved, but it more than likely is not the Raptors. Colangelo had to at least try though, because he might have been able to land a solid player for the Raptors.

Misfit youve been participating alot lately, but it would be good to be in a three team trade, we would get a decent role player at least.

Colangelo is an excellent GM, and we have some cap space.

Colangelo is too smart to fall for that trick.

Throw Webber's 40 Million in that deal, and you could work something out probably. We could give up Rasho's 21 Million for that probably, and a couple of draft picks and you could have a trade.

Now, if Nene's contract was going to expire this year or next year, then we would gladly take it. Denver realized they gave him way too much money, and now they are trying to get rid of him while bringing in Iverson, thus the whole reason for bringing a third team into the deal.

Do we have to match his 60 Mil you mean? The most we can offer is about 30 Mil I guess, so it makes sense what your saying, but one thing, Whos going to buy this guy out? No way I would, and Second, If that is the case, Iverson's not going to Denver. EDIT: or then again, Ainge might pickup the 60 million dollar deal [IMG]
