Republicans once stood for peace through strength, not endless war. http://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/a-return-to-the-peace-party/
Geez, I hear the lament, but ideal hero is a sham. Eisenhower may know the tragedy and he should. His plan for D day produce 10,000 or more casualties because he miss used the best weapons he had at his disposal on D day. The US Navy Destroyers with their Mark37 system controlled 5 in guns were not deployed to take out the guns with a field of fire on the landing beaches. This was a disaster until finally, after many many casualties a few Destroyers went in and made a break out possible. We were at war the whole time Eisenhower was President, first in Korea, then Taiwan. The Navy did not fire many shots during the Taiwan, Quemoy, Matsu support missions, support only, sometimes just plain targets to draw fire from the Taiwan supply ships. I know one sailor that wondered WTF he was thinking, and more than once. Eisenhower's political history is recorded in his favor, but his record as a military commander is completely distorted in history.
