As a lifetime fan of the great Willie Mays, I'm really hoping that they don't make a big thing about A-Roid hitting #660 when it happens.
Actually, I'd much rather see Ol' Willie Come out with a stick of Lumber, and kick his ass off the field and all over town.......
Ha, Hacksaw Duggan..........I damn near forgot about ol' Hacksaw.... I bet the vast majority of the retired guys, like Hogan, (tho' is he ever really retired), even when he hits 90, he will challenge Oprah....! Rick Flair, or The Under-Taker, will challenge Hillary in another year, and it hopefully will NOT be on the White House Lawn..........
I'm also hoping he hits #s 660 & 661 on the road where he'll get booed which would only be fair considering how he got there.
I once heard Willie Mays state in an interview that his finest baseball accomplishment was that all he did was done with his own body. Wonder what Willie has to say about A-hole and his turbo charged record.
I don't kiss Willie Mays, or anyone else's butt...... Mays has made negative statements about Mantle, and he has his faults .... .....and isn't god. Chances are Arod will pass him......and tell Willie Mays if he played his entire career at the old Yankee Stadium he would have "a few less" HRs than 660..... And it's just a darn shame the great Willie Mays couldn't hit ONE single HR in 3 World Series.
I'll tell you Bob, you never cease to amaze me. Any REAL baseball fan would know that Willie Mays played his first 7-8 years at the Polo grounds. A stadium that was built like a horse shoe. Where left & right center was over 440 feet & straight away center was 483 feet. So far from home plate was it that only 3 players ever reached it. Babe Ruth, Joe Adcock & Lou Gehrig. He then went onto played in a wind blown vacuum known as Candlestick ball where many historians figure Mays lost AT LEAST 100 home runs. Know your history.
By the way Nick, I personally heard Mays say in an interview when he hit a ball up towards RCF at Candlestick, the wind would just carry it over. You can call me any name you wish, Nick.....my screen name begins with "blg" but for some reason Nick, you choose not to simply use three letters (blg) and prefer other "names". That's okay....I know you're still feeling the sting of wanting MORE than 7 innings and 4 runs in every start from our #3 or 4 starter, which was a theoretical question I posed. By the way....you never did answer my question whether or not you would accept getting SEVEN INNINGS and FOUR runs yesterday from Eovaldi....lol I know, it's disconcerting when your self proclaimed title of being the old voice of reason sage of Yankeedom feels jeopardized.
Its RICK, I refer to you as BOB because everyone here has a name but then again you are what they use to refer to as DIFFERENT so if you'd rather be known as initials so be it. And for AT LEAST the 3rd time your stupid question about whether I'd except a starting pitcher with an ERA over 5 (4 runs in 7 innings) has been answered by several of us here BUT........I guess we can all just attribute that back to you being....you know.....different. And yes any REAL baseball fan would want a starting pitcher to have a better line of 4 runs in 7 innings. Again an ERA of 5. I hope this clears this silly matter up BUT....with you, I doubt it.
I don't think anyone here is kissing Mays butt merely stating facts. The only comment I ever heard Mays make on his home run totals is that he lost a couple years playing time to the U.S. Army. As a retiree I salute Mays military service. Nor have I ever heard Mays bust on Mantle.
Thank you Michael. I also never heard any negative talk of Mays about Mantle. But when you have nothing to offer I guess you just make shit up.
...lol "For Candlestick's first 10 seasons, the wind blew in from left-center and out toward right-center. When the park was expanded to accommodate the 49ers in 1971, it was thought fully enclosing the park would cut down on the wind. Instead, the wind swirled from all directions, and was as strong and cold as before. Giants Hall of Fame center fielder Willie Mays claimed the wind cost him over 100 home runs. Nonetheless, he had less difficulty fielding balls in the windy conditions. Mays was used to playing in difficult conditions, having patrolled center field at the NY Giants' long-time home, the Polo Grounds, which featured an enormous outfield."
Okay okay, I hear ya....it was a hypothetical question where I saw a value of having a "guaranteed" 7 innings and allowing 4 runs in each and every start from a middle of the rotation SP over the course of a full season. Now we're talking', lol.... Can you see ANY value or advantage in having that potential situation? Are there any advantages and value in having this "guarantee"? I know what the ERA translates into, but you would have to consider getting those 210 total innings (30 starts?), and also knowing you won't need your bullpen until the 8th inning and never getting your SP "blown out" of a game before the 8th inning. I know you realize "they" consider a quality start being 6 innings and 3 runs. No problem Rick, I just occasionally enjoy having out of the box discussions. Okay, I'm ready to put it to rest unless you want to further comment. I want mind, either way. GO YANKS!
I've never been to the old Polo grounds back in the day, yet the pics looked like the LA Coliseum, actually worse. That Death Valley CF, and ridiculous LF, who was it, that said: "Center Field (in the Polo Grounds), is where HR's go to die????" Tho' I've not been to those Polo Grounds, I was at numerous Giants games in Candlestick, and the winds were an understatement. SBC or whatever the fk they call it these days, was clocked to prevent winds blowing in; as bad as they did in Candlestick..... On any given game day, the wind was blowing in from the bay, easily robbing Willie of 100 or more HR's, I like to think more; b/t the Polo Grounds and Candlestick......! Then Frisco had to go and make a Home for the 49er's and "the winds began to howl".........in circles, no one ever knew which way the wind would turn, after that brilliant fkn idea......
...^^^yeah, I just found it ridiculous that someone would claim that Willie Mays actually stated that Candlestick Park helped him hit more HRs.
Yep, that is is..... ridiculous....... One year, damn near every game in Candlestick had entire News Papers blown asunder, up against the outside, trying to blow inside, at all OF Fences. A Land Fill was undergoing a project, not but a mile or 2 away. That was one shitty year in Frisco, thus the exodus of Fans to Oakland.......! I wonder if this means, Rick is a closet A's Fan. That is, the papers were blowing
