Make all the stupid excuses you want, but if LA had played like a star this series, we'd be up 3-2 right now, headed back to Portland to finish them off. Meyers and CJ are the only thing that kept it respectable.
Let's not forget that we had glaring issues back then too. Just because our record was good didn't mean we were necessarily well off. We were at our best when we had Afflalo coming off the bench with wes starting. The only good thing that has happened since wes blew his ankle up is the emergence of CJ.
Might as well trade everyone away for a million draft picks so we can all sit around the fire, sing koombaya and talk about what it's going to be like when our guys reach their potential. Then in another 4 years we can blow up the team and do it all over again.
A lot more fun than watching a team built around a jump-shooting PF who isn't all that good at jump shots. I'd much rather support a losing team that's looking to improve, than a middle-of-the-pack team that's spinning its wheels wasting years on a go-nowhere "star". Personally I had a lot of fun during our losing seasons - $10 tickets and getting to move down to the lower bowl was great! Blazer fan, win or lose! Just don't like sticking with something that doesn't work.
We aren't a middle of the pack team when healthy. A couple of adjustments (turning Lopez into Hibbert or Chandler), and another year of Leonard and CJ progressing and we are definitely title contenders barring injuries. We were what? The fucking 2nd seed in the packed West when Wes went down? Give me a fucking break guys.
I'm sorry but if we want to win we can't have a 36 year old make his age in millions putting up 17/8 on what will be likely low-mid 40% shooting. LAs contract is a hard thing to commit to both ways.
Then we are the 2 seed, looking at playing the Spurs in the second round again. Where IMHO we lose in 6.
The Wes you know is done. Done. You cannot expect anything close to his production going forward. http://thehoopdoctors.com/2013/07/top-10-nba-careers-ruined-by-achilles-injuries-1992-2013/
AND we had to make many 15 point comebacks. This season has been a massive downer, I just hope we can right the ship this summer.
If the entire population of downtown PDX gets on its knees in Riverfront Park and chants OHM, will LaMarcus' s heart get bigger and stay?
This thread makes me glad no one in this forum is our GM. We are a bunch of short sighted soccer moms.
Why the heck are we getting so caught up in what LA's contract will be in relation to his performance in 5-6 years? What we should be focused on primarily is the next three when, with a right move or two and a little luck this team could be contending for a championship. I'd take being cap-strapped in 2021 if the Blazers brought home a title in 2016 or 2017.
