<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (BigMo763 @ Dec 16 2006, 09:41 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>See, this is what I mean. You can't sit here and say he doesn't deserve to win the MVP award this year because there is no way he is a better/more dominant player when compared to those guys, or that he was a god among players in his era, or that he doesn't belong with the elite players in NBA history who have won three straight MVP awards. The purpose of the season MVP award is to reward the Most Valuable Player that season... now, it's a different thing to say, "Alright, LeBron or Kobe deserve this award this season because they were more valuable to their teams than Nash was, etc." and that to me is understandable (and of course arguable).</div>I don't think he was the best player in each of these three seasons. I certainly don't think he was the most valuable, either. The Cavs would be a lottery team without LeBron. So as you said, it is indeed arguable that he among others deserved it more than Nash. I love the guy and he is elite, but I think it's ridiculous to give it to him three years in a row like that. It's not that I'm saying, "Come on guys, he's not Jordan or Malone." What I am saying is that those guys (2+ MVPs) deserved most, if not every award they got. He doesn't in my opinion, and that kinda sucks from a historical perspective. I don't think that's a stupid or ridiculous thing to say. If I thought he was the best each season for the past three seasons, I wouldn't even be arguing about it.

You people are f*cking dumb. THE MVP AWARD HAS TO DO WITH STATS AND TEAM SUCCESS. Nothing else. You can preach and preach about how he won the last 2 and other guys haven't won 1 and bla bla bla. NO. He has had the best all around numbers on one of the most successful teams for the last 2 he's won, and the 1 he will win this year. The people who vote for this award look at stats and nothing else. They don't care about who has won 2 or 0 or 26. These intangibles are pointless so please get them out of your argument or your argument is irrelevant.

Well I would imagine it's not hard to blow the mind of someone who thinks the M.V.P. award has to do with something more than statistics.

Are you people stupid? What he's done in past seasons doesn't mean anything when considering this years MVP right? Voters aren't going to look at the fact that he's won 2 straight MVPs (although I believe it will be widely publicized down the stretch). I think that he has an outside shot at winning it, and the Suns would have to win 50-60 games and pull in the 1 or 2 seed in order for him to get the MVP, along with the numbers staying the same all year.

He's won MVP's putting up these kind of numbers while winning tons of games. This year, his statistics have gotten even better he's going to win a ton of games again. So based on that and the fact that he's beaten out guys like Kobe and LeBron before, why would he suddenly not win now?

Well I think that you're right in a sense, but there's another part of me thats saying otherwise. The MVP is the Most Valuable Player for that season, it doesn't look at the stats for past seasons. Past seasons shouldn't be looked at, especially in a potential three-peat case, because it's three different sets of stats that are being looked at. I see what you're trying to say, BCB, but with you're logic, that's like saying, "Well, last year Nash had a little worse stats than Kobe, but Nash won it, so (factoring in all stats, not just PPG) if Kobe has a little worst stats than Nash this year Kobe should win it." Regardless, its a muddy situation, there will be controversy no matter the winner, and I think that if Nash keeps it up he should threepeat if the Suns finish like I said, 50-60 wins, 1-2 seed.

Re: If Steve Nash continues what he's doing now...

There is no reason why Nash should not win the MVP this year. As it has been stated many times already, he is putting up career high numbers and the Suns are playing amazing basketball. They just tied the franchise record for most consecutive wins (14)! Along with that, they have the longest winning streak in the league right now.Nash is leading the league in APG (11), and is scoring the most he has scored in his entire career in the NBA (20). On top of putting up amazing numbers, he is also one of the biggest, if not THE biggest, reasons that the Suns are playing so well. Whenever we take out Nash, our offense seems to struggle a lot since Marcus Banks stinks and Barbosa is a SG, not a PG. As stated before also, he is why Amare is putting up such good numbers. Whenever Nash is out, they almost never feed Amare the ball. Nash also hits clutch jumpers that we need (Golden State game, Nets game, etc.).How could Nash not win the MVP? He is clearly the most VALUABLE player. Sure people can argue that he is not as good as Wade/LeBron/Kobe/etc., but the award is not given out to the best player. It is not the "Best Player in the League" award. If it was, Kobe should have won it almost every year since Jordan retired. It is the most "valuable" player award, and I can't think of one person who is more valuable to their team than Nash is.

Re: If Steve Nash continues what he's doing now...

Alright, here is an objective look on how they are going to vote:The MVP is 95% of the time on a top five team in the league (and a top 2 team 90% of the time). Yao is the equivalent of last year's kobe. and won't win it unless he raises his total a few points and rebounds per game.Lebron will need to up his scoring and get his team back on track if he wants a chanceThat leaves Dirk, Duncan, Kobe, Nash, and BoozerBoozer isn't an NBA poster boy/superstar and with so many people queuing up who deserve one he's ruled outPlayers almost never win multiple MVPs more than one year apart. Exceptions are players who switched teams (IE Moses Malone, Kareem) or players who transformed their game (jordan, wilt). Duncan has done neither. duncan hasn't changed his game or teams since winning his last MVP and I highly doubt they'd give duncan another MVP without doing anything different from what he's done in the past. That leaves Kobe, Nash, and Dirk.Dirk won't get it unless the mavs take first place in the league by a landslide. He's doing the same thing he's been doing for three seasons and nash won the MVP the last couple of seasons, and nash has improved. That leaves Kobe and Nash. They are one game apartTheir stats are fairly comparableThey are both having career yearsKobe has reformed himselfThere are many Kobe haters out thereThere are many Nash haters out thereIn the end run the entire race will be decided by which player has more haters and more fanboys.Assuming the season keeps going like it is right now.

Though the Heat are sucking this year Wade is the one that deserves it. Even if he gets preferential treatment.

He is having his best season this year statistically, his team has won like 13 games in a row, but IMO, he still wont win it. I dont think the NBA would allow a player to win 3 championships in a row when that player in the 2 previous seasons, took his team in to the playoffs with a great deal of talent, and never made it to the finals. Nash is having a great year, I will give him that. But he isnt elite enough of a player to get 3 in a row. The only way I see him getting it again is if nobody else steps up. The only other guys that I see in contention with Nash this season is Dirk, Duncan, Kobe, Carmelo, and Lebron.

^14 in a row. [IMG] Melo is out of this I think. If LeBron brings up his scoring by a few points I think that he will take it. Now if Boozer keeps doing what he's doing I hope he gets it but he won't. [IMG]

Re: If Steve Nash continues what he's doing now...

The Pestilance is right, It is between Nash and Kobe. Some good points were made in this thread:- It doesn't matter who won it last year the voters will vote for the guys most deserving. ----- Wrong!!! Jordan was robbed by Malone one year Kobe was robbed by Nash, Ginobilli was robbed by TD (finals MVP) it is not always the best player to get it!! And if you think that they will be inpartial in regards to him already winning it twice already then your dreaming, thats like saying the jury's on the Michael Jackson case or the OJ case weren't swayed by outside factors! As much as we'd like to believe they dont look at that stuff, they are still humans and will be swayed wether they realise it or not. I would hate to see him win it, though I have to admit he is definitely one of 3 that deserve it so far.And He is having a great season. But in the end all this conjecture and debating is moot as the season isn't half over yet, lets bup this topic in a month or 2 and see whats happening!

the league just can't let STEVE NASH a canadian point guard that hasn't really won anything win three straight mvp's. That puts him in VERY elite company in nba history. Company he doesn't necessarily deserve to be in. They probably won't give it to Kobe, even tho he deserves it, so I'd say the safest bet is Dirk or LeBron.
