Hey since a few of you guys decided to wear reading glasses while watching games in HD....yes the Yankees, led by "team leader" Brett Gardner, have begun to grow mustaches. Girardi and AROD getting pressured to join in. Here are some recent articles: http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/yankees/yankees-have-a-mustache-thing-going-1.10333327 http://sports.yahoo.com/news/bronx-...hes-during-winning-streak-194743649--mlb.html http://www.nj.com/yankees/index.ssf/2015/04/wait_the_yankees_are_growing_mustaches.html http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2...ing-to-get-alex-rodriguez-to-grow-a-mustache/ http://yanksgoyard.com/2015/04/27/yankees-editorial-brett-gardners-mustache-campaign/ I think you get the picture. Go Yanks!
If it adds to spunk and attitude well done. Lets see the boys grow some longer hair, sideburns, mustaches and throw that buzz bomb style right out the window.
Yeah I hit on this subject in yesterdays game thread (post #4). I think its fine as long as you keep it neat & trimmed. Some of these players today look like f'king cavemen & lumberjacks. Remember the mustache Oakland A's of the 70s?
Seems like something Charlie O would have done. They had a helleva team back then during there run. Bando, Reggie, Tenace, Rudi, North, Hunter, Odom, Fingers, & Blue.
Campy at SS and Dick Green 2b. I remember their great MGR Dick Williams would on occasion, don't recall how often or rarely, but I recall him using a "strategy" where he would begin the game with one of his weaker hitting backup 2b/mid infielders at second base, low in the lineup, and when it was his (2b) first turn at bat, Williams would send up a pinch hitter and then use another 2bman on defense...maybe even twice in a game before ending up with his chosen last 2bman to finish the game....probably Dick Green. It was his way to avoid as often as possible in a given game, his weak hitting position while trying to maximize the offense in the lineup. Kinda brilliant. Those A's teams had good benches with a couple of decent hitters and 2b was their weaker offensive positions, but Dick Green was their best all around 2bman. I don't think some of those "old school" manager's methods would go over very well nowadays. lol
I like the swagger....breathe of fresh air post-sterile Jeter/Core4 era. Don't get me wrong, 95-14 will be some of the greatest ups/downs as a Yankees fan. Absent of Cashman/Steinbrats giving this team some life....love to see the players taking charge. And "mustache captain" underscores the kind of leadership I predicted from Gardner.
