Yeah I know but the incident was over by then right? I think the knicks were by their bench and the nuggets were by their bench backing up their pussy ass franchise player .

This is a basketball game, not a boxing match. Melo made a stupid move, and deserves to be punished. Regardless, Mardy Collins didn't expect Melo to punch him, and he did not see it coming. He didnt even try to defend the punch, because he had no idea that Melo was going to hit him. And no, I don't get into many fights. Sorry, that's my bad....but you don't retreat 30 feet after ypu punch someone. And dont use the "he realized what he was doing" crap excuse, he moved back as soon as he punched him, and he damn sure knew what he was doing, and what would happen before he did it. You atleast stand there and not run away from the fights you start.Carmelo Anthony is a coward.
Melo has been in trouble since he came into the league? What else has he done? Apparently he did have possession of weed, so I'll give you that. But that's one incodent, what else did he do that lables him such a "bad influence?"And I can't believe you said "Melo ran away in fear." Haha, that's just funny. I hope Tony reads that comment. To say Melo was afraid of NATE ROBINSON is just funny. And ok... you excuse Nate's "cowardly act" of turning around when Melo slowed down.. because Melo is bigger. Now if you want to get into size mismatches... MELO HAD 2 PEOPLE RUNNING AFTER HIM. Add the height and weights of those 2 guys, then compare them to just Melo. And again, he was not running away like a coward, he has to get set. He's not going to let two guys tackle him. EDIT: Also maybe take into consideration it popped in his head that he shouldn't take this any further. Ever think of that too?
I heard that Isiah Thomas told Marty Collins to do it on purpose, that bastard.I also heard Melo might get a 10 game supensions for that sucker punch...what a bad boy

I dont care if anyone has a gun in their shorts, eithier team was acting like a bunch of idiots and decided to brawl. So much for the no tolerance rule, Stern. This just goes to show that no matter how strict you are on players, sh*t happens.
People keep blowing this thing out of proportion... the league has become soft. The only reason this is such a big deal is because of the brawl at the Palace a few years ago. Fights like these use to break out all the time back in the early 90s, etc., and it was all a part of the game.I, for one, am glad this happened... add some intensity to some of these damn games.
You know what...people are saying Melo was a bi*ch for running away....first, he never "ran" away. Second, he saw Nate, Frye and Jeffries(ithink it was him) coming towards him, so he was really just backing up to see wuts up. Really, would you stand still if you thought 3 knicks were going to jumop your ass? I wouldnt, I would do the same thing Melo did. And not to mention the fact a couple nuggets were pulling him back for a second. So he didnt run away like a bi*ch really....just gathering himself cause he was confused. Havent yall ever been in a bigass fight?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Penalties for brawl likely to come MondayFrom the Associated Press12:43 PM PST, December 17, 2006NEW YORK -- The NBA most likely will wait until Monday before ruling on penalties resulting from the brawl between the Nuggets and Knicks. All 10 players on the court, including league scoring leader Carmelo Anthony, were ejected after the melee Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. The mayhem began when New York's Mardy Collins flagrantly fouled the Nuggets' J.R. Smith with 1:15 left in Denver's 123-100 victory.ADVERTISEMENTAnthony faces an automatic suspension for throwing a punch, and Smith and New York's Nate Robinson will be penalized for their fight that spilled into the stands. With so much footage to review and players, coaches and officials to interview, the league probably will need time to make its ruling."I don't expect a decision today," NBA spokesman Tim Frank said Sunday. But it might well come Monday since both teams play that night. The league's policy has been to rule on any suspensions before the teams involved play their next game. The Knicks host Utah on Monday; the Nuggets are home against Washington.Anthony could receive one of the harshest penalties. He twice escalated actions, shoving Robinson in the neck and throwing a hard punch that dropped Collins just when things seemed to be calming down.Last season, Orlando's Keyon Dooling was suspended five games without pay and Seattle's Ray Allen three for their fight, which also spilled into the crowd. Dooling threw a punch that did not connect.</div>- LA Times
well, this whole situation is crazy. I think it is dumb that guys like Eduardo Najera and David Lee got suspended from the game when they didnt do anything the entire time....They were just trying to seperate everything. I hate the excuse that Isiah is using for the outbreak of the entire thing. Just because a team is playing their starters doesn't mean that your players have to intentionally foul the other player on a breakaway layup. IMO, JR had the right to protect himself and had the right to do what he did. I think it is stupid however that Carmelo threw the punch. The situation had died down, and he had to throw a punch in. He deserves every game he gets suspended in my opinion.

If they didn't like the fact that the Nuggets were up by 20 and embarrassing them on their home floor... well, maybe THEY SHOULD HAVE PLAYED BETTER!
NYKfan, if Melo was that much of a coward, why would he have punched him in the first place? A coward wouldnt have ever punched him. Did you ever think that Melo wasnt thinking before he punched him, and after he did so, he realized what trouble he could get in so he went away? I am not saying that is the truth, but it is just as truthful as every accusation you are stating. When you are in a fight like last night, the players arent going to be thinking, "hey, I am going to get suspended". They are thinking that they need to protect their teammattes. I think that if alot of players got fouled like that, they would have reacted the same way. Hell, even a guy like Tim Duncan would get up and get in his face. Whether it would get to the point of what happenned last night, I dont know, but JR and his teammattes had the right to stick up for what happenned. I honeslty dont see how that is being a "coward".

Jeffries was pissed too...there were like 5 guys holding him back by his jersey.
