LHP - C.C. Sabathia, (0-4 5.40 ERA) VS. LHP - Mark Buehrle, (3-2 6.75 ERA) Lineups to follow..... CF - Ellsbury LF - Young DH - Rodriquez 1B - Teixeira C - McCann RF - Beltran 3B - Headley SS - Drew 2B - Pirela Unless something wrong with Gardner I don't see him sitting in favor of the non-hitting Beltran.
Pitching wise this could be a wash, Yankee Fans are unsure of the "Big Man" and Jays Fans know that Buehrles' track record against the Yankees has been anything but superb.
I know CC is a shell of his former self but he deserves at least 2 wins. He's spit the bit few times and turned in a few good starts. Would love to see him show us a set and follow up Pineda with a statement of his own. Every time I'm hopeful with the big guy I get let down, so my expectations are low. I would be really happy with 7IP, 3ERs.
He got knocked around pretty good in 3 of his starts but yeah by all accounts he should be 2-3 right now because in that 2-1 loss to Detroit his offense failed him. I'm no longer very optimistic when he takes the mound but I do always hope. Go Yankees!
7 strong giving up 2-3 runs & keeping his team in the game. Anything more than that would be a bonus.
...CC has a long way to go before he reaffirms my confidence in him...he has the ability but he's just been a mediocre/poor starter for about 2 years now.
Agree on all your CC points and of course I would gladly welcome 7IP 3R. And if he COULD do that on a regular basis throughout the remainder of his contract, it wouldn't surprise me if the Yanks offered an extension in his final year. Lol I'm kinda joking with the "extension", so let's leave it at that. Imo - He has to eventually give us a couple few games where he's able to go deep (at least 7 IP) into games and allow 3 or less runs...no doubt. But let's be fair...just because he's currently grossly overpaid- and has lost 5 or so MPH on his fastball, isn't exactly getting any younger...let's not get crazy and expect this guy to average at least 6-7 IP , allowing 3 or less runs in MOST starts. Basically, to wrap it up- are we now expecting CC to pitch like one of the BETTER pitchers in the league? Because "at least 7 innings and 2 or 3runs" is what is expected from some of your better pitchers in the league. CC Is still in the process of reinventing himself with his 90 MPH fastball. He now knows and believes (imo), he must be more of a finesse pitcher. This is why I gave him a fresh start and tossed out 2013 prior to ST. I'm still giving him more time to show either: He's washed up- Reduced to a # 4 or 5 SP- He makes the adjustment and becomes a "solid" #3, hopefully a GOOD #3 SP- Which is what I think he can still be. Let's be fair to the big man...give him a few more starts....and if he sucks, I'll be on board.
I have been down on CC......nothing new there. But, the law of averages are in his favor. He's pitched a couple of good games and shows nothing for it......a case when the offense did nothing when he pitched. How he pitches against Bautista, Encarnacion, Russell, Travis will show a possible outcome..... one way or another. Yet, I agree with 59, I do not have confidence in CC. He is on the downside of his career.
Glad to see the big man is living up to his own miserable performance standards and it's only the 2nd inning!
Great hustle to get the double but he went from hero to goat in a hurry. And I really wish Michael Kay would stop reminding viewers every time A-roid is up that he's tied with Willie Mays. Because IMO its not anything that should be celebrated.
Tex gambled and lost. Buerhle has been off the plate top of 5th so Tex swings at a high inside first pitch...........this time ........zilch.
