For our summer calculations, Afflalo sounds more and more like an Afterthought.

He did not play well the last 1/3 of the season, being injured for some of it. This means basically nothing in regards to his value going forward.

Him opting in would be the best case scenario.

hopefully he opts out so we get absolutely zero value from him going forward.

What value do you think we'd get from him if he didn't? You really think there's much of a market for what he brings? Sometimes you've got to admit you screwed up and move on.

i think he is a perfectly fine rotation player, as evidenced by his years of competent play. The Blazers could very well move on from that if they so desire, as CJ replicates a lot of what he does, but just because CJ is good, does not mean that AAA is bad.

if he opts out he will definitely get a full MLE from somebody imo, maybe im way off base though. if thats the case, would you rather have him on a full MLE, or a 1 year 7MM deal?

if he opts in, he would be

A: very likely a perfectly decent backup or spot starting sg/sf
    and
    B: an expiring contract

to willingly wish that away from the team would be foolish.

Sadly, even when he was "competent" he was
    (a) on a shitty team
    (b) not actually helping that shitty team

He's the classic stat-padder. And now he's not even that.

How about neither? Unless it's on the Lakers, in which case I hope they snap him up.

First "competent", now "decent". You sure know how to damn with faint praise.

Sometimes you just walk away and accept the cap space. If you keep him to flip him, you run the risk of him becoming Gerald Wallace, which he certainly looked on the way to being. Besides which, he either has to have minutes, in which case he's taking away from our younger players who are actually better than him by just about every measure, or he's on the bench feeling sorry for himself, which is just awkward. I HOPE that Olshey doesn't feel like the fact that he gave up a pick for him (and has a history with him) means he has to keep the guy.

I'm really tired of the "he was injured" bullshit. He wasn't injured when we got him (or if he was, where's the receipt? I want our money back) and he was shit then. He was shit for Denver the whole year. He's never been a good passer or a good rebounder, and I'd like to see evidence he's actually a good defender. He's so much worse than Wes it's not funny. I think people feel like they have to stick up for him because of the euphoria of the trade. Well, I've been there with Oden, I don't feel the need to do that again.

lol damning with faint praise? is anyone in here saying he is a fantastic player? i think you are creating a position to argue against that doesnt exist.

we get it, he had a badyear so he sucks forever. he is the worst ever. even blazers edge thinks so. i wonder what canzano has to say on the subject.

the thing is...if your position is that he is done as an nba player...you very well might be wrong. does that even occur to you? the condescension is palpable considering you are bloviating on what amounts to a hunch.

my position has and will remain to be...as a 29 year ¡competently decent! player, he is worth a 1 year 7mm contract, for no other reason than he will be an expiring contract with proven 3pt shooting ability.

Hell, last year he was worth a #1 pick. maybe we can get a 2nd for him this year and recoup some assets. or another asset. assets are good. shit, we could probably trade him for a deep cut eurostash immediately. wouldnt that be sweet? mmmmmm

i mean, in bizarro world, where the blazers are big players in FA, and we needed that 7mm to make a run at lebron and KD?

then yeah, hope he opts out. fucking bribe him to opt out. threaten his penis. no holds barred.

It's still better to have him opt in. we then would have 2 expiring deal with he and Nic that have value. He has classic "bench" guy PERS for his career. Somehow he got Starters Money.

That's not my position. He certainly does enough things that are value to teams to stick in the league. My position is he shouldn't be a rotation player on a good team. And, in fact, he never has been.

A hunch doesn't usually involve advanced stats. Unless you mean that my hunch is that he will stay crappy. I think he always was, it's just more obvious when you put him on a decent team. It's you who think he's in a slump.

    So, what he's RLEC now?

You mean, a low first rounder. #1 is #1 in the draft. And turns out he wasn't worth that. You're just hoping some other schmuck makes the same mistake we did.

    Ooh, you know my weakness.

Oh, and here's another article slamming him, because I guess hunches are contagious.

if you are scouring the internet looking for people who think wes is better than AA, it really shouldnt be that hard.

hell, i could have told you that.

Rasta, with all your stat checking I'm sure you would have seen afflalo was definitely a part of the rotation on three Denver playoff teams.

I think it's hilarious btw when people bring up stats. I used to be one of those guys. You know what the cool thing about my job is though (accountant)? Stats can be manipulated and butt fucked into whatever your agenda could be.

If his name was Aron Afflalovich I think Rasta would love him.

I think AA has to decide before LMA but here is the thing:

If you know LMA is coming back then I think you hope that AA opts-in (we will be over the cap regardless - might as well have him as 7th man to try to make a run or at the very least good deadline trade bait to improve the team). However, if you know LMA is moving on then you pray like heck that AA opts-out (probably a rebuild or retool and I think neither of those require AA and his inefficiency).

if lma leaves i think AA on an expiring is still decent value. could still grab an asset for him most likely.
