Rocky Mountain low<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>There is an art to defending a teammate who has been flagrantly fouled. Get in your opponent's face, point at him, gesture at him, threaten him ? and then let security and teammates pull you back. That way, you defend your team's honor without doing any major damage. It requires composure, which is difficult to display in the heat of the battle, but it's absolutely necessary, particularly for a star player. Anthony's mistake cost him 15 games ? the length of the suspension the NBA handed down Monday. It also cost the Nuggets their second-leading scorer: Smith, who'll miss 10 games, which is a longer suspension than he probably would have gotten had the fight been broken up earlier. That means Denver, which had enjoyed a good start to the season and looked like a strong postseason contender, will have to really scramble to keep its head above water.</div> What do you guys think about Kerr's comments on defending a teammate?
Steve Kerr is whack sometimes, why do you want to know how not to get suspended when your pissed? When your mad, who cares? Which is the same mentality that was in all those players minds yesterday, not "how to dignify it"
To be honest, I find his article hard to read and retarded. My take on the matter? When your teammate gets blatently fouled like that, it is within your right as a fellow player to let the opposer know,"Hey. Don't do that"However, the foul blatently contucted upon J.R. Smith was not bad enough to warrant what Carmelo did. Yes, there was provocation, but there comes a point where you have to say to yourself: "Calm the F*ck down, and get my teammate to a place where he can stay cool and recover from the damage just dealt to him."The bottom line is, Carmelo reacted in a way that was natural to him: Don't think, just do your thing. Yeah the hard foul wasn't right, Yeah some Knicks players were going crazy, but that's when Carmelo needed to back off. If he were to rush over to Josh, push him away, and shout at his teammates to back away, they woud. The Knicks look like a bunch of idiots and the Nuggests get the win - destined for playoff preparation while sitting on a beach and slurping sodas. However, everyone goes beserk, everything escelates, and an unjustified brawl between supposed adults has resulted in perhaps the Nugget's demise. Sometimes I wonder: What the F*ck are these people thinking? Judging from those recent events, it's clear some athletes really don't think at all.
When you're the most important player on your team, if you do ANYTHING that keeps you from playing, you've failed your team.Carmelo Anthony has failed his team.Nuff said.Kerr was right, you defend your team, but you don't cross the line.
Nah, Melo handled it wrong. What he should've done as the team leader is just hold JR back and try to calm him down. The way they did it was stupid, thuglike, and immature.
