Manning remains a solid MVP candidate

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>I just read Paul Attner's fine story on the MVP candidates. I recommend you check it out. I have a vote in the Associated Press most valuable player voting. And I haven't completely decided whom to give it to yet. Three important games remain, and things could change a bit. But if I had to vote today, I'd vote for Peyton Manning. I know that's probably not the popular choice. He's already won two, and a lot of fans are ready for some fresh meat. But what happened in past years has no bearing on this year's award. All we should be concerned with is what the players have done this season. Nobody has done more for his team than Manning, and no player has meant more to his team. Within the context of the Colts offense, Manning is responsible for more than any player in football. As a quarterback, he touches the ball on every play, which gives him an advantage over players at every other position. But as the quarterback who makes significantly more decisions at the line of scrimmage than any other quarterback, he stands alone. There isn't another player in football who could operate the Colts offense the way he does. He is even responsible, to a large degree, for the Colts running game. They've been able to run the ball with Edgerrin James, Dominic Rhodes or Joseph Addai. James, meanwhile, has struggled since leaving Indianapolis. He might even be the team's best run defender, because he forces other teams to throw by building leads and keeping pressure on them to throw. At this point, Drew Brees of the Saints has thrown for more yards, more touchdown passes, has completed a higher percentage of his passes, has a higher passer rating and has thrown for more yards per attempt. And it's close in my mind between Manning and Brees, who has made an incredible difference to his team. Brees still could get my vote. It comes down to this, though. What are the Colts without Manning? You'd probably agree they'd be competing for the first pick in the draft.</div> Manning would get my MVP pick right now, everyone gets too caught up in the statistics with Tomlinson and Alexander...etc...Fortunately, we do allow the ebb and flow of the actual season to influence MVP considerations. But, unfortunately, we become influenced too heavily by what I see as a recurring situation: the infatuation with elite players who are stalking glamorous records. That has become the No. 1 criteria for MVP consideration. In 2005, Shaun Alexander emerged as an MVP candidate the closer he came to the season touchdown mark. He eventually broke it, and that accomplishment -- coupled with 1,880 rushing yards and his role on the NFC's best team -- made it a painless decision for voters. Now it's L.T. who has grabbed our focus by eclipsing the same record. From Paul Attner in another good article.http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=159341

This year however, its Drew Brees who is the giant.

Brees 65% and 25/11 Manning 63% and 22/9 Considering how close they you have to give Manning the edge because he's simply the better player.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the only stat that matters, the better player stat *sarcasm*Brees has more then Peyton in every positive statistical category.Oh and since they both will be over 4,000 well guess what, 4 maybe 5 QB's will finish the year with 4000 yards. The two others are:Jon KitnaMarc BulgerShould they be MVP candidates? Doubt it.

The stats with Bree's and Manning are close but due to Manning just being a lot better I give him a edge. I like Drew Brees a lot but I'm sorry...Peyton's just on another level.

Well based on your arguement....<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Drew Brees is not the giant, Peyton and Bree's numbers are very close.Brees has more passing yards but both will be over 4,000</div>... you think they should because being over 4,000 yards is obviously an MVPpreformance in your arguement.

I was pointing out that they both will have over 4,000 yards meaning the difference between them is not that big.

Doesn't matter what sport we talk about, that guy always brings in Lebrons homerism into the mix.

Just like with any other fan that has fav players on there fav teams.Sorry but I just really thought LeBron or Kobe should of won it. I don't want to go way off topic so I will leave it at that.

Manning is amazing. Watching him on MNF is great. All the audibles and such. Too bad the defense sucks a dick.

That pass just now to Reggie was amazing. Now many QB's can hit it right in the right spot as Manning.

And he's putting up numbers as good as anyother QB.
