Because they have almost $60M in guaranteed money for next year (not counting Crawford, their only competent player off the bench) so they don't have enough space. Plus once they're accept the Batum and Aldridge trade they'd have no cap space anyways

In your scenario you had Dallas pursing Jordan. If that was the case wouldn't a sign and trade be beneficial to both teams? The Clippers would be desperate for a center and LMA would not go to the clippers without them having a center.

I never said Dallas would sign him. Just pursue which means meet let Tyson go. And the Clippers will have less than $2M in cap if they accept Crawford's option (which they will) and $7M if they don't. So how could they afford Chandler?

I think LA would love to play with CP3, plus DeAndre comes back if they get Nic and LA, guaranteed. Tyson wants to win and escape the bad situation in Dallas so he comes to Portland.

Maybe. But I really don't think Tyson thinks the Dallas situation is that bad. He likes it there from every interview I have seen. They were all happy until Rondo got there.

He may love Dallas but they are unstable. Near the end if his career he should want a team that isn't gonna get blown up every off season.

exactly, especially if he had a chance to join a contender

First, that's a pretty impressive three-man core. There aren't many better. Redick is one of the most dangerous shooters in the NBA. Crawford, while his career is on the downside, has proven he can score in bunches. Even Hawes has shown pretty good ability, just not any with this team.

Hawes was a puzzler this last year. Doc was counting on him being a major contributor. He was basically their big FA addition and only played 7 minutes a game in the playoffs. Here is a quote from last summer:

"Hawes was determined to sign with a contender and his commitment to the Clippers on Friday becomes a tremendous coup for president and coach Doc Rivers."

Doc getting roasted right now on local LA radio for letting Collison go, and signing Hawes instead of .....Paul Pierce.

I don't know if they had a chance for Pierce, but I do remembering thinking that it was a perfect fit. I bet Doc tries this summer for PP.

We really dodged the Hawes bullet. I was pretty pissed off at the time, but then again I was when Hedo spurned us too. Players have a habit of saving us from ourselves.

I was happy Hedo went elsewhere, but I really thought Hawes would have been a good fit for Portland at the time.

Luckily we found a better version of Hawes in Leonard

If Pierce is on the market WE need to go all out to sign him. Whether that be trade Nic or start Nic at 2.. I don't care.

I never understood Olshey's fascination with Hawes. He spent years as an NBA laughing stock, then finally started on a bad Eastern team for a year, which promptly dumped him. The FAs who succeed here are the ones who surprise us because of low expectations, like Lopez and Andre Miller. And even Blake, years ago.

Maybe he was fooled by his advanced stats. He shot almost 45% from 3pt range in his 27 games with Cleveland and 40 % with Philly,
while grabbing 8 boards in 30 minutes. Damn you PER.
