Freaking epidemic. I agree with Nolan Ryan, they need to lower the mound. So many short striders throwing downhill, the stresses from these type of fastballs is very high. The Rays have a shoulder strengthening regimen that apparently is quite advanced, that would also be a good thing to share around the league. And then the year round youth baseball needs an off season.

I know I probably asked this before but why didn't MLB have all these injuries 40 & 50 years ago?

start em way toooooo young chuckin innings in 5th grade. spinin curves in 7th. so easy and don't understand how this is not a topic. kids are still growin the pubes and pitching 4 games in a weekend and not allowed to play hoops or run track. its on the parents and coaches that are fuckin these kids way to young. that is why "the john" is all over. it all started with youth sports.

Not sure I fully agree with you Musky, I played LL 50 years ago as did many. Sure maybe the work ethic is a LITTLE different today but honestly I can't see that making that much of a difference that would cause all these arms to give up as much as they have.

Did u play 5-6 games weekend at 10 years old? Add school ball in during the week. I watched a kid chuck 3 games in 2 days last weekend at 10 years old. It is totally different. Worn out while still growing. That is a problem.

That's a bit excessive. In all my years of playing little league & later coaching it right up to a few years ago, I've never witnessed anything close to those numbers.

...yup, and the with the lure of big money contracts nowadays, these youngsters are simply throwing harder to impress and get to the big leagues quicker...not to mention that so many of them are also playing Winter ball, so their arms simply don't have an "off season" to recuperate.

I think this is probably due to all the weights that are lifted in addition to throwing all these innings...

Sorry Steve can't agree with this part because they (pitchers) threw WAY more pitches 40-50 years ago.[/QUOTE]

FB put a ton more torque on the elbow than the curve ball and related pitches.

Bad news for Whitley....good kid....I would promote Mitchell, or some other of the better Yankee farmhand pitchers and give them a few starts...and by the way.....
    ......I disagreed with signing Capuano.

I'll eat my hat (so to speak) if one of the better kids from AAA-AA couldn't at least approximate Capuano's stats while ALSO gaining important experience at the big level with a very fair chance of having a higher ceiling than Capuano.

See- I am not a "blind follower" of Cashman as one individual accused me of.

The more I read from "that guy", he becomes more of a clown.

But they weren't lifting the quantity nor reps of weights lifted now... and I said IN ADDITION to... not that it was the only reason... I agree they threw way more years ago...

In the old days, guys did push ups, pulls up and dips. Really can't condition a shoulder better than that.

have to disagree. these kids are playing year round even in 5-6th grade. maybe you are coaching in a different place. i am in wisco and baseball is year round. can't do it to these arms at such a young age. high school is like the "off season" now for pitchers.

Musky many of today's players go right from the regular season to Winter ball, especially the minor league players.
