Agree but things would have to go pretty far south for us to trade him at the deadline (like us sucking real bad - not even in the playoff hunt) imo. And pretty much every team is going to want a guarantee that he will sign with them if they trade anything of substantial value to us.

Fuck that. I rather rebuild/reload/s&t than be stuck with a 30+ year old Aldridge making 30+ million per season until 2021.

No guarantee that we sign him after that 1 year deal.

I realize that, so my question would be what is the point of the one year deal? Sign and trade him on the deal he wants now while he still has peak value.

30+ years for Aldridge isn't like 30+ years for a player that uses their athletic ability to stay relevant. Aldridge is much like Duncan, being able to stay relevant for years because of great offseason conditioning and more "fundamental play".

I would definitely do that deal. Aldridge has at least 4 solid years of top tier play left in him.

I don't think his value is going down in 1 year. Can trade him next summer just as easily if he doesn't want to be here.

I sure hope Dame is not stupid enough to publicly say Aldridge is going to bolt. That would be arguably the most idiotic thing a player could say.

I think that was more of a comment about fans.

Aldridge is kind of breaking down slowly (he has missed 8-13 games per season since 10-11), and as he gets older he will take even more 18 footers, he will become less efficient. If we want to win we have to play it smart, it's a business. I'm all for signing him to the 5 years this summer because his cap hit after this coming season will be workable going into the 90+mil cap era.

I just don't see where he is going to bolt to. Maybe he would like to play for a shitty Knicks or Lakers team but I have no idea why unless it is strictly endorsements and not caring about winning. If so then in that case we are better off with him moving on.

for me it's "relevant" vs a franchise player, I think LMA will be "relevant" but IMO he is not a franchise player and not worth that money level - just my take

See, I completely disagree. 8-13 games is hardly a concern. Blake Griffin missed more this season. Should Clipper fans be concerned with him?! Wade missed many games throughout his career, but Miami needed him.

The difference is next summer trying to replace him could be a bitch because we are going to have to take back a lot of contracts/overpay for other players due to the raised cap. This summer would be the most ideal to get the best bang for our buck if we decide to move on.
