+> When I went to college it was to avoid being drafted into Vietnam. These days, start a career in the services and use that skill set in teck fields. College is not that important for the Common Joes out there.
Previous generations of parents would save from the birth of their kids to cover college costs. Now they demand someone else pay. Everyone should make at least $15/hr. Except barfo.
They can. if they just applied themselves. Multiple scholarships and federal grants available. Just need to go to community college for one year to become a medical assistant or dental assistant. Hell, they could even become a pharmacy tech, which I think costs around $2,000 for the three month program and make something in the ballpark.
Actually, all three of those fields will be employing mostly robots within another 2-3 decades. No job known today will be the same 20 years from now. The days of spending 30 years in school, 30 years in a career, 20 years in comfortable retirement are long gone.
People have been saying accounting would be computer based for years. It is with bookkeeping and tax programs, but I highly doubt it can be solely done by computers. Every try has failed miserably. Accounting also has a major misconception. It's barely about the math anymore. You have to be very people oriented and have plenty if customer service attributes. The days of accountants staying in a back room away from people is long gone.
Uhh, Quickbooks anyone? More and more people are doing their own accounting on Quickbooks and hiring CPAs on a minimal basis.
Lol, I've seen tons of people doing their own QuickBooks, cpas usually have to fix everything. And if they don't, cha ching for a fast and easy business return to prepare for $1500-2500 at least. Which takes all of thirtyminutes to prepare
Ah yes. TurboTax, keeping the irs in business because people don't know what they're doing or the documentation they actually need for the deduction
Not that I'd expect less, but you all (except Jfizzle) seem unaware that there's a much larger world of accounting than just simple bookkeeping or tax preparation. Much like the legal and medical fields, there are many different areas of accounting in which one can specialize, the vast majority of which by their very nature simply cannot be automated.
If their kids went to college. I worked 3 jobs to pay my way through college, and took no assistance. No such thing as a free lunch.
People don't want to make sacrifices to finish college. I worked at a grocery store as a cashier and would see families with massive amounts of $$$ on Oregon trail food cards, getting soda, candy, ice cream, huge amounts of meat etc, while I'm going to school surviving off top ramen, chicken noodle soup, hot dogs etc. Those same people on food stamps would be back around the 21st complaining about how they didn't have enough money on their food stamps card and it's the states fault. Sacrifices, in order to succeed. It's not that hard to succeed in life if you try.
