Re: Yao Ming = MVP?! If the Rockets succeed and make it around a 5-4th seed, Will Yao be a legitmate pick for an MVP?My answer? Of Course. This Guy is carrrying the load right now. He is getting more aggressive each day, Just look at his potty mouth. Look at his stats from 5 recent games...Washington - 38 pts(23 of them in the 4th), 11 rebounds, 6 blocks Lakers - 26 pts, 5 reboundsWarriors - 38 pts, 18 reboundsLakers - 35 pts, 15 rebounds, 8 blocks, 4 assistsClippers - 32 pts, 10 rebounds, 5 assistsNow that's just straight up nasty.Yao is also the only player in the top ten in Scoring, Rebounds and Blocked Shots.Greg Anthony even agrees.http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/daily...ailydime-0612151. Houston Rockets center Yao Ming (25.5 ppg, 9.2 rpg, 2.0 bpg, 7th overall in Hollinger PER at 26.04, Team record 14-8).He has made the transition from being arguably the most important player in the league -- he's from China, biggest market in the world by anyone's standard -- to the Rockets' best. Yao's still developing which is scary but his impact has developed to the point to warrant MVP contention.
Re: Yao Ming = MVP?! I don't see why not. 5th seed would be crazy for them, and he's having a great year.
Re: Yao Ming = MVP?! <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (dsounG @ Dec 18 2006, 10:43 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>He is getting more aggressive each day, Just look at his potty mouth.</div>I seriously laughed out loud when I read that :HAHAHA: But yeah Yao is one of the top candidates for MVP, he's put insane numbers this season and has single-handedly carried the Rockets without T-Mac, or with T-Mac playing badly. It's amazing how much he has improved, I would love to see him win MVP.
Re: Yao Ming = MVP?! Ive seen improvemenmt, but I still do not see him as a ligitimate MVP pick. Altough he is more agreessive now, he still lacks some heart and some of that passion that others show. He is playing liek a monster right now, and has carried Houston without Tmac, but IMO he can not sustain this style of play through the whole season. However, if he keeps improving like this I could see him as an MVP candidate next year.
Re: Yao Ming = MVP?! Nope I don't think he is considered top 5 player in the league. Their is 3 things you need to win an MVP or at least be a candidate:1. 50+ Wins2. Stats3.LEADERSHIPI haven't seen leadership but I could see the stats and 50+ wins going down.
Re: Yao Ming = MVP?! ^yeah even I hav to agree with Dsoung, he has shown leadership. I dont think he will win it for other reasons
Re: Yao Ming = MVP?! I dont think that he will win it, but I think that he will be in the contention. One reason is that he isnt in one of the elite teams in the west. (by elite, I mean top 3) Unfortunatley, I dont see any player winning the MVP in the west that isnt on SA, Dallas, or Phoenix. He isnt a superstar yet. Unfortunatley, alot of people in the US dont view this guy as a player on the level of a guy like Duncan or Dirk. I think that Yao right now is better than Duncan, and is on the same level as a guy of Dirks status. I think that he wont be in contention for the wrong reasons, but their is one reason that I agree with as to why he wont get it. He hasnt led his team past the first round of the playoffs ever....I know his team has had injury problems, but voters take that in to account IMO.
Re: Yao Ming = MVP?! As of right now, he should be top 3-5 for MVP and most likely will finish in that range. The other contenders will be Dirk, Nash (numbers are better this year), Kobe, D-Wade, LeBron and maybe Arenas if he keeps it up.gonna be a tight race this year IMO.
Re: Yao Ming = MVP?! really depends on how long he's out for.10-15 games can be excused if he has a stellar year the rest of the year.It may even help if the team tanks without him and he comes back and they start winning again
Re: Yao Ming = MVP?! I doubt he'll win the award, but I'm really happy that he's having a great season and is finally getting some recognition. I think he's definitely the best center in the league today, he's been playing great basketball, and putting up very good stats too. For once people can't bi*ch when he starts in the All Star game, because he legitimately deserves it.
Re: Yao Ming = MVP?! My pre-injury thoughts were eh, he was having a great season offensively, but was doing much of nothing on the defensive side to say much about anything besides rebounding the ball. Of course, Nash isn't much of the defender, but he puts up stellar stats on the offensive side of the ball, and that's what got him the award the past two years. Now that this injury has jumped up on him, I just don't think he'll win the MVP award this year missing basically a whole month.
Re: Yao Ming = MVP?! Remember the video where Yao said "try and f*cking stop me"?Well, he just got stopped.HUUUUUUUUGE hit for the Rockets to take.
Re: Yao Ming = MVP?! He should be a candidate, he's been posting up crazy numbers up until his injury.
Re: Yao Ming = MVP?! Well, our record is decent and he just got injured.. damages the possiblities a bit
