Just a note to anyone who uses Paypal and links up their credit card and bank account information. Apparently somebody overseas accessed my account and then turned around and withdrew $1500 from my checking account. Thankfully, my bank dealt with it quickly as Paypal was just useless to deal with on the matter. I've disabled my account with no interest of using every again for anything. The only reason I had used it was for my use of Ebay which isn't nearly as much as it used to be anyway. In my opinion security on these systems are just too poor to take the risk of having them store personal information.
...been with Paypal for about 10 years (even before EBAY bought them out)...use a Paypal card almost exclusively to pay for nearly everything...never, ever had an issue. ...and oh, btw, mine is a business account...not sure it that gives added security or not.
I'm knocking on wood that I haven't had any issues, and I've been with PayPal for a long time as well, but it bothers me that they seemed to break through with this great payment system and never developed anything from there. Security with PayPal hasn't advanced, commerce functions haven't advanced. It had so much potential, and while it is successful for what it is, I just expected it to become so much more. That potential was there before Ebay bought them out and the failure to even inch toward that potential is the same after the buyout.
I did not let Pay Pal link up with my bank account after first checking with my credit union who advised no. I made some nice purchase through them paying ahead and avoiding interest, very nice feature. I'm paid off with them now but will not close the account in case I need another expensive toy. I see a lot of bandwagon jumping to interest free payments if completed on time, just bought new lawn equipment using a Home Depot Card, if paid within 6 months no interest gotta love it.
Do not have paypal anymore.....not after they accessed fees from my account without my authorization. Then they claimed I gave them permission. And, yes, mine was a business account. Adios.
...I was notified last week that Paypal and Ebay will soon become completely independent of each other and will be 2 separate companies again...not sure what that will translate into going forward.
^^^yeah, like someone else said, so far, "knock on wood"...I've never had a problem...transferring money in and out of my checking account to/from Paypal has been seamless. ...my wife had here personal checking account compromised a few years ago but it was not in any way connect with Paypal. If someone gets enough info they can use your account, no matter who the provider is. Hell, a waiter/waitress for example, can take a quick photo of the front and back of your credit/debit card with their smartphone camera and that's all they need.
It worked well when I was using Ebay a lot. It cut out having to wait for people to send you checks and stuff like that. That being said big or small internet security these days doesn't matter. The IRS was just hacked and the information of 100K people was compromised. In my book I think it's now wise to keep your vital information in as few places as possible.
I heard that there was a secret meeting in London to try to end cash in the US and in Europe... why secret though... It's mostly been circulated in fringe groups and now where in the lame stream media, but... If this happens with cyber security being a truly viable threat... people could be ruined in the blink of an eye even more then they already are... Don't know if it's true, but....
Never used Ebay or PayPal. I've never had an online purchase that didn't take v, mc, d or ae. Pay my cards off at the end of the month.
