What more does Cashman need to see in order to release this guy? Between this year and last year in 465 plate appearances the guy is batting .162. He hits a homer once in a while and then proceeds to go on an 0-20 ride to hell. He's an automatic out who just continuously kills this lineup and kills innings. It's really just enough.

...time to put that lame horse down.

The 7-8-9 spots this year are hitting .210 .193 .198 ...can't keep doing this.

It's time for Refsnyder. I'd rather deal with his adjustment to the majors than continue to watch Drew's garbage.

...Refsnyder probably should have started the year at 2B...I think I prefer him over Pirela. Bird also should have started the year on the roster...Garrett Jones sux.

...fwiw, I also wouldn't mind seeing Judge on the roster.

I was just about to post this Vic. I mean seriously no more excuses, his 162 average last season was due to no spring training, well this year he's not only had a FULL ST but has also been given every chance by Girardi to succeed by being in the lineup 5-6 times a week. Its time for this to end, the guy just can hit anymore. Plain & simple. But don't be surprised to see his name in the lineup again tonight.

I agree on Refsnyder, and hope that we see him soon because Drew is terrible and has gotten plenty of opportunity to continue to prove it.

Hard to say Garrett Jones sucks. I feel for the guy. Hasn't had a chance to do anything and really could benefit from hitting in YS.

...Garrett Jones.... .235 .278 .353 .631 He was at .150 .171 .225 .396 before finally going on a 6-11 streak to get him to where he is.

...for a supposed power hitting 1Bman, it sounds like classic suckage to me. ...I'm sure Bird would have been an improvement.

In fairness he was getting no playing time early.

Isn't this kind of proving my point; if a warm stretch in 11 at-bats can have that much impact on his average, he's just not getting enough at-bats. I bet he has a fraction of Drew's at-bats. And now, when he gets a shot at the plate you know he's making saw dust. I'd like to see him get closer to 200 at-bats, heck even 100, before making an assessment on him. Somebody I can comfortably make an assessment on now is Drew. He should be the backup infielder/defensive replacement.

... sorry, I don't see how 11 anomalous ABs are any more indicative of how good of a hitter he is than the other 40 ABs.

...he was terrible in ST too (9 for 51) (.176) ...with no HRs. The guy is 34 and his numbers just aren't very good...especially for a 1Bman.

...c'mon bern, you can't really want to see Jones as the backup 1Bman vs seeing Greg Bird develop.

...well, he's merely a backup, so he's not gonna get much playing time.

...and again, part of the reason is probably because he also was so terrible in ST...which is why I said Greg Bird Should have been given the backup job.

My point stands that I don't feel it's fair to bury Jones based on this years body of work, but you're correct. Give me Bird as a backup 1B and Refs as the starting 2B right now please. You want to keep Drew as a backup infielder/defensive replacement? Fine, but I'm ready to see all of the young guys. I really like seeing Pirela, JR Murphy, Heathcott and maybe Lindgren soon. That is new for this organization…lately anyway. Bird, Judge, maybe Severino as September call ups and there's a hopeful trend.

I always say that if my sons were ever blessed enough to be drafted by a major league team, I'd hate for it to be the Yankees. Man, I'd love for that to change.

...yeah, I think they gradually got into a rut of simply trying to throw money at problems and buying FA talent instead of developing it.

...for the first time in many many years, I don't have at least one player that I really look at as emblematic of the franchise.

I don't think they wanted Bird getting as few ABs as Jones is getting in his role, unless you would prefer a DH platoon with Arod, or platooning with Tex?

If Arod goes down with an injury, they'll use Beltran much more at DH and use others in some kind of DH/RF rotation.

The only time -imo - we're going to see Bird play at least semi-regularly this year is if Tex goes down with a LONG term injury.

And maybe, possibly, Jones' little improvement is a result of getting just a few more ABs?

...uhhh, no...like I pointed out, Jones had more ABs in ST and sucked ... he played in 5 games in a row in April and had 27 ABs in April, and sucked. Last time I checked 78 ABs is more than 11.

Its really gotten to the point where any inning that Drew is due to bat in, we're only getting 2 legit outs because Drew is as close to automatic that I've ever seen from a major league hitter.

ST? Bird? 27 ABs in April?

Okay, looks like this is over.

Beltran has had 140 ABs and has sucked. He rode a hitting streak of singles for the most part and there's very little power. The fact is Jones has been hot of late so he should get some more time now. Especially now that Young has come back down to earth.
