With second base being there biggest hole you can expect the Yankees to deal for the A's Ben Zobrist who figures to become available. Zobrist is a 34 yr old switch hitter who can play 2B, RF & shortstop. My thought, WTF?! looks like the kids are never going to get a chance. I don't know about this but I guess anyone would be better then Drew. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/z/zobribe01.shtml
If that went down who would the Yankees have to give up. Zobrist is a nice player but he's on the wrong side of 30.L et him stay in Oakland, go back to Tampa, or maybe he can get on with his old buddy Maddon. Ah shit they want youth in Chicago. I say DFA Drew, lets those kids come up and boogie woogie and yeah fire Cashman as well.
How pathetic can this bullshit get? If this story is true, Cashcrap needs to be shown the door. This move shows how unrealistic this jackass is. The present Yankee roster is so loaded with Championship quality......adding another over 30 player just makes it better. Oh man....how delusional is this organization.
This was a "thought" by a NY Post sports writer in an article. The Yankees being the Yankees, you can expect them to deal for a second baseman at some point. The A’s Ben Zobrist figures to be available. Notice how he said: "you can expect them to deal for a second baseman at some point". So it depends on WHO is doing the expecting. The Yanks appear to be giving Pirela more playing time and there's only one way to find out what he can do - play him.
What kid? Pirela is getting a chance and failing. Refsnyder is failing in AAA. 11 errors 2 Home Runs, .733 OPS at age 24. I'm all for chances, but Im for those chances being earned. The 2B spot was there for the taking with Drew struggling. Pirela & Refsnyder are dropping the ball. I have no problem renting a Zobrist or looking at what it would take to get Dee Gordon & DJ LeMahieu if the price is right. I'd even take Prado back.
Looks like Refsnyder's 2b defense is a serious enough detriment to keep him from already being here (2b) with the Yanks. I haven't watched him play in the minors but I'm kinda guessing it could be obvious he would be too much of a risk at 2b? He probably needs more work (reps), experience and seasoning NOT at the MLB level. 2b was not his natural regular position but I believe he can HIT at MLB level. Pirela -imo - hasn't "dropped the ball" ....he had a set back in ST with a concussion and only now is he getting playing time at 2b. I'm far from calling Pirela a "bust" at the ML level and/or at 2b playing sporadically with less than 40ABs. Has he yet to start back to back games at 2b more than once, or twice?
I'd rather deal with his spotty defense than the anemic offense Cashman strapped us with again... Cashman needs to go for his continually poor decisions...
I'm not calling either of them a bust, my point is regarding chances. Pirela is 25 years old. Eventually you need to kick the door in when you see it's cracked open. I dont see the proof yet that Refsnyder would be able to hit ML pitching when he has a .733 OPS in AAA and no power production. His defense is dreadful. His bat would need to carry that by being a + hitter and there are no signs yet that he is that. Pirela is getting swings. They are probably going to continue with this for the month of June. If Refsnyder and Pirela havent done something to show signs they need to look to the trade market.
He'd need to be a .733 OPS guy in the majors to make up for his D. He's a .733 OPS guy in AAA....he is far from ready. He's probably a hot streak from getting his chance, but what he's done in 2015 leaves much to be desired. He's on pace to make 40 errors at 2b!
I'd play Pirela and move Drew to SS personally. I wouldnt call up Refsnyder right now, see no reason to unless he plays much better. If a guy is on pace for 40 errors I dont consider him a prospect unless he is a stellar hitter. He needs to work on his craft. That's to be done in the minors until at a ML level. In a month unless someone has stepped up at SS or 2B Im making a trade if Im the GM. You cant continue getting a combined .550 OPS from these 2 positions. And Didi has 7 errors to go with his pathetic offense.
"Spotty" defense may be putting it kindly.....just saying. I haven't seem him play regularly at 2b - I like what I saw from his bat in ST but he even made a bunch of errors during ST, he is still "learning" the position, has no prior success at the position..........for all we know, Refsnyder could also be very bad at turning the DP. And THAT (turning the DP) is very significant.
I've seen him play a few times up in Scranton and liked what I saw... He definitely won't be a Cano with the bat and will make more than his share of errors, but it's a relatively new position for him...
Well, yeah, ....okay- this doesn't surprise me. From what I saw from him in ST, AND looking at his last full season in AAA, I would presume he would be a pretty good hitter at the ML level without good power numbers.
