Lol that would be funny if AV plays him on the 4th line with Glass, as a goon ( I know he's a dman)... Torts would, remeber Bickel
Totally off topic, I miss Torts post games. I used to look forward to those.... my wife used to look forward to the press conference and she hates hockey...... lol
People who take the coaches word for it are quite dense. It shows you lack hockey knowledge. If you look around the NHL, there are tons of coaches who fall in love with scrubs who are unproductive players. Renney did it. Torts did. Now AV did it. The previous 2 got fired for it. There is no way Glass, St. Louis or Boyle should be on this team next year. AV buried McIlrath and Lindberg in the minors because he was a stubborn jackass who played favorites. It potentially cost the team a cup. His idiotic friendship with Glass destroyed our 4th line all season. He doesn't have the talent up front to have a soft, puck moving defense. He's too much of a stubborn jackass to change. So either Sather is going to tell him to change or he's going to get fired eventually as well. Chicago might win a third cup this decade because they have a coach who doesn't put any relics or scrubs on their roster who can't play. If you aren't productive, you don't pay for that team. Not the case with the Rangers. Older players on Chicago are given a role they can fill.
That is funny Al. Dump loved AV for playing Miller, now he hates AV for playing Glass and holding McIlrath down...LOL. Loved the Yandle trade. Now hates the Yandle trade and hates Sather for making it and hates any fan who smartly says why the F would we deal a guy like that with a 2.6 mill cap hit, which is a huge edge for us next season. He had zero issue with MSL, but after a bad playoffs it's OMG AV is a joke for playing MSL all season. Hated the Hawks for "tanking" and getting tops picks like Kane and Toews, now they are the model for us and don't play old guys...LOL. FYI...starting next season the NHL draft is like the NBA draft where the top 3 picks are selected in a lottery, so no more tanking for # 1. I am with dump on some things. MSL should be gone. I would give McIlrath a shot as the 7th dman and let him earn the 6th dman spot if he can it. I would move on from Boyle if it can save us some money. I would try and get rid of Glass and his deal if possible, I would love Sheppard in his spot. I would have Lindberg in the 4th line mix. And I would add a gritty firery R shot top 9 winger. So we agree on a good deal of things. He's just over the top with the we need drastic changes and play two rookie dmen in the top 6.
Hopefully AV watched last night's game and took some notes. After being stymied by TB for most of the game Quenneville completely shakes up the lines and steals the game in the last 7 minutes. The AV-MSL friendship killed this team in the postseason.
I agree there panzer. The MSL thing will be the lingering mystery for sure. Why he kept MSL on that 1st PP unit, as Nash and Yandle sat and watched, is a mystery to us all. All we can do is move forward and hope AV learned something. He also should have moved Miller up and MSL down sooner IMO, but it is what it is I guess.
AV got out coached and was completely stubborn. You don't stand there at home and watch your team fail without doing anything about it.
well it took a very favorable bounce for the Hawks to get that second goal, if anything it should show how hard it is when Tampa plays that kind of defence for a team like the Hawks and all their talent to go goaless in 2 plus periods.
he did that and the results were still two home shutouts. Sometimes the other team just plays better. AV didn't have many options he had 3 dmen with flat tires a pussy in his number one goal scorer. Yes MSL perhaps should have been reduced and off the PP unit, but its not like there were tremendous upgrades to go to.
AV still could've shaken things up and what he was doing with MSL was completely ridiculous. It hurt this team more than many people think.
I think he was in a no win situation...his options were...move miller up ..ok...move fast up...ok...or..you hope that the 40 something has that one swan song game or series, game 6 gave you a glimmer of hope
That's the thing. AV had plenty of chances to learn and one hopes he would have learned it by now. He doesn't change, that's why it is a long shot he wins a cup. Look what Quenneville did. He sat Vermette for one game. He did not care and Vermette contributed tremendously in a win against the Ducks and last night he had a game winning goal. That's how you do it. If somehow magic formula clicks and no adjustments needs to be made then AV and the Rangers will win, otherwise not gonna happen. He is going to continue to do the same thing over and over that will frustrate us. Today it was MSL and Glass, tomorrow it will be someone else.
AV has now had several solid regular season teams that still haven't gotten over the hump. I think he's an excellent coach but we're perhaps seeing some of the frustrations Canuck fans had as well.
There will be no buyout for Boyle. His entire cap hit remains, as its an "over 35 contract". Could possibly be traded, and we could retain some salary, but we pretty much cannot buy him out.
I thought the new CBA was changed to allow normal buyouts for over 35 contracts, ie half the amount due on the books spread over twice the years (so 2.25 or so over 2 years). I could be wrong about this. Edit; sorry 2/3 not half http://capgeek.org/nhl-salary-cap-faq-how-do-buyouts-work/
AV was limited in how he can juggle his lines. Last year he had Miller, Fast, and Carcillo in the bench... This year aside from Sheppard their next option was Ryan Bourque, or dressing Hunwick for 7d
Looks like there is some confusion on this topic, as the new buyout clause says one thing, but the "over 35 rule" is also still in the CBA... http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/showthread.php?t=1903945 So you may be right Prod, not quite sure...
Wow good find Vro. Been awhile since ive been on the hf boards. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's baffled by this. Taken from that thread, I THINK this guy has it right: "Reading the CBA itself there is no article specifally pointing out how 35+ contracts are treated in the case of a buyout. So you need to read multiple articles and read between the lines. The CBA articles covering the 35+ contract rule start with "All Player Salary and Bonuses earned in a League Year by a Player who is in the second or later year of a multi-year SPC [Standard Player Contract]...". When the contract is bought out, it has been terminated and is no longer valid SPC. So reading the 35+ contract rule, it does not apply in case of a buyout. A player whose 35+ contract has been bought out is no longer on his "second or later year of a multi-year SPC". The 35+ rule applies to valid contracts only. Also the specific buyout articles in the CBA make no reference to 35+ contract rule, so it is not an exception on the general rule on how buyouts work. Buyout rules thus do apply to 35+ contracts. That's how the CBA should be read (IMO) and Bill Daly's email to Capgeek confirms this." ... To me, it seems the 35+ rule applies more in the case of trying to hide the guy in the minors to get that 900k in savings...can't do that on an over 35 deal since he would still be on a SPC. NHL took half a season to write this thing and they still can't make it clear...
