I still feel like they don't get enough respect. They put out one of the only classics in the last five years...The Minstrel Show is the second studio album by hip hop trio, Little Brother. It follows on the critical success of their 2003 debut, The Listening. The album was highly anticipated and touted as a probable breakthrough for the group, even before its release. The title itself is a reference to the minstrel shows that were popular in America during the 1800s.[Big Pooh]Imagine, if this was the last rhyme I ever wroteThe last words that I ever spoke, NOI'm a keep servin themCause its somebody out there, that never even heard of himOr the songs I be murderingNow it's a whole herd of men that follow in his footstepI did it all to get a rep and it worked outNow my sisters kirk out when they hear me on the radioHere we go with the steady flowI'm the best since sliced bread but you already knowHow it goes when, me and Te be composingOver instrumentals 9^th holdingWe not hot niggaz scolding, I told menBut it's only now you want to listenSo get close, please pay attentionHere's a few things I'd like to mentionThe B the I the G the P the O the O the HThe is none greaterThe L the B the J the LIs here forever money so see me laterStash away plenty sheets of papersh*t is perfected and we hit the majorsSee, I said you niggaz couldn't cage usThem mere feeble attempts was outrageousIt aint a party 'til we hit the stagesRapper Pooh signing off, see you in the funny papersHa, you can bet your life on it, you gon see me man come on[Phonte] (Busta Rhymes repeats, "Oh my god!")Rock, Rock and you don'tFreak, Freak and you don'tTo the Beat and you don'tIts unique and you don'tYou think I will but I won't, stopThey think I will but I won't, stopRock, rock and you don'tFreak, freak and you don'tTo the beat and you don'tIts unique and you don'tBig Pooh and he don't stopAnd 9th Wonder he don't stop[Phonte]Even though, most of our albums are poorly promotedAnd all the magazines probably won't even quote itJ League never running or foldingWe got tight to steal y'all spotlight and y'all won't even know itOne time for Big Pooh cause he quit eating steakAnd two times for 9^th Wonder cause he setting it straightAnd 3 times to that hoe from the 8-1-4That moved in, got kicked out and caught on tape (ha,ha)Just a little bit of time, is all that we granted on this planetFor us to get our little bit of shinesIf y'all want to get a line, then talk to BIG DHOCause aint sh*t free but the spirit of my rhymesI hear it all the time, LB aint on the same ?So innovative you the next best things, since, whatevaI just laugh with it, cause today's fan is tomorrow's rap criticOne day they giving you the thumbs up the nextThey telling 9^th to go on switch his drums up the bestIs what they expect, but why they won't let the musicJust be what it is is anybody's guess, so ahIf y'all feeling this y'all aint gotta analyze itThis sh*t is dope so we aint changin' upMakin' money and our parents aint ashamed of usAnd when I think about that I can't complain as much so let it rock.Raleigh gottaDurham gottaChapel Hill gottaGreensboro gottaHigh Point gottaGot a zoneIts for all y'all man[Phonte] (Busta Rhymes repeats, "Oh my god!")Rock, rock and you don'tFreak, freak and you don'tIts unique and you don'tTo the beat and you don'tThink I will but I won't, stopThink I will but I won't, stopRock, rock and you don'tFreak, freak and you don'tTo the beat and you don'tIts unique and you don'tThink I will but I won't, stopThey think I will but I won't, stopPhonte is the sho shotBig Pooh and you don't stop9th Wonder got the beat the sho' shotLB is on the beat and you don't stopGo buy this album if you see it in the stores if you already haven't...
The only problem I have with this album is 9th Wonders repetitive beats, they all sound the same. Thats what keeps this album from going classic status, I'll leave it at a 4/5.
