Both DraftExpress and NBADraft.net have us taking this guy. Not enthused. He's a not-particularly-athletic gunner with motivation issues who has ALREADY TORN A MENISCUS. Anybody got opinions on him?

(As the Finals are over, I figure it's okay to go full bore on the draft and put this in its own thread.)

I'm w/ u Rasta, after watching the tape, it makes me more confident that we won't select this guy. He's very unimpressive. Also, he'll b going up against the world's best players/defenders; years later... who knows, I could b wrong about him (I've seen plenty more guys who've looked much more promising prior to the NBA but amounted to nothing once they got there) but... I don't get that feeling:grouch:

I don't like the guy, but that is because he spurned my university (Iowa State) when we were recruiting him.

Based on your description alone I feel safe in saying we won't draft him. He sounds terrible if what you said is even only partially true.

He has above average court vision, a once projected combo-guard, but played with JR Smith-esque blinders on last year. But his step back jumper looks identical to B-Roy's.

If he continues this I see him as a less erratic Will Barton.

Pass!! How UNLV has two guys that are/where potential 1st round selections for as bad as they were is beyond me.

Due to the abundance of highly ranked UNLV players in recent drafts, it is very obvious the NBA talent scouts are spending more time than normal “working” in Las Vegas, wearing out comfortable seats, while being impressed with a healthy amount of spectacle and dazzling performances.

However, someone should tell the scouts they are supposed to be watching basketball games, not scouting dancers in the shows that will be future NBA team dancers.

I wonder about the two guys from Arizona for the same reason. Anyone watch a lot of Pac-12 and can explain that?

If we take him over Delon Wright, Justin Anderson, or Jerian Grant...

You guys realize he's only perished in the first round because he's still 18 right? And he has an NBA ready body and can score... he wouldn't make an impact for a couple years but he had so much time to grow into more than he his

Good point, the Blazers are in the position of drafting a long term prospect anyway.

Shawn Marion is the last UNLV player who was anything more than a bottom of the bench role player since the mid 90s....and he was drafted 15 years ago.

Then the question becomes: is UNLV due OR doo-doo? :dunno:

So we don't look at a player because of other guys in the past instead of thinking about the player himself?

Well, what does Vaughn do that wows? Nothing. He is a low efficiency scorer who played on a mediocre team and he isn't very athletic, his upside doesn't seem that high. Best case scenario is a Martell Webster type.

His upsidemail isn't that high? The kids 18. I can speak for myself that when your that young good coacing can help things click just like that. Sure you have Martell Websters out there but they were saying the same things you're saying now about Tobias Harris when he came out. When someone has decent talent and 6-10 years before they even their prime then that's a good low-risk high reward gamble at the end of the first round. Delon Wright at 18 was committing to a JC. Nobody would've thought about him being an NBA player then, and most would've said his ceiling would be below what Vaughn is now. But now Vaighn is a draft favorite here, including one of mine, which is proof that you never know how good a 18 year old kid can become.
