Will you give it a rest 71? If the ESPN boards were still up I bet I'd find posts of you (among others) giving up on Sauer as well, considering he took even longer to make the team. The organization has had nothing but good things to say about MC lately so lets see how he does in camp instead of ignorantly writing him off post after post.
Means 1 of 2 things....either they plan on moving one dman (boyle or yandel) or....that they have no real opinion on McIlrath and his great playoff run Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
I dont see how this would reflect on McIlrath at all. Hunwick is a left shot. His playing time will have nothing to do with McIlrath. If they sign a right-handed Hunwick type then maybe. And I've also seen nothing on him being resigned besides Larry Brooks saying they'd "like" to bring him back. Does anyone have a link to a source saying hes coming?
Agree. McIlrath had a good camp and a good year in the AHL. The reason he wasn't up isn't because he stunk. It's because AV was a pig headed, dope who valued soft, weak, non clearing mobile defenseman like Boyle instead of what he brought. It hurt the team a lot in the playoffs.
Plus you probably need Hunwick because if AV screws over McIlrath like always, McDonagh and Yandle will be getting their heads rammed through the boards with nobody doing crap about it and miss time with injury. So, they probably need a vet backup on the left side. That's if they don't trade Yandle and go with Skjei.
I see hunwick signing elsewhere and being a regular 5th/6th D on another team and getting off the ranger merry go round as their is no regular playing time here for him minus injury
Clearly 5 games NHL experience is more than adequate to make an accurate evaluation of McIlrath's potential. I just want to see the guy get 30 NHL games without any of AV's bullshit, if he shows no improvement then by all means move on. I think Dylan's size and reach will more than offset his alleged lack of speed. Hunwick is a serviceable backup who would probably be a starter on most other NHL teams, don't see why he would return to the Rangers when he could play full time elsewhere. I hated the resigning of Staal, thought Yandle should have got that money but what's done is done, it makes resigning Yandle highly unlikely.
Injuries did set McIlrath back but there was no reason with our soft, non physical defense not to develop this kid after he at least had 40 games in the AHL this season. It was absurd.
He definitely had some major injuries that have set him back. Hopefully he gets a fair look in camp/pre-season this year. They are lacking any type of true physical threat on the blue line, his presence could alter the way opponents play against the Rangers. You know Hank is dying for a crease-clearing d-man.
