Darren Dreger said on TSN1050 this morning that the Oilers are at the top of the list for Talbot, the Rangers are “motivated to move” if the return is good enough and Buffalo and San Jose are the other two teams with high interest. He thinks that a deal could go down this weekend or certainly before the draft and that the return in these kinds of situations is usually getting some combination of a good young player, a prospect or a draft pick.
wow, a possible first for Talbot...and this is why you don't get crazy for trading picks for Nash and MSL. Who would have guessed Talbot would bring back a mid round first rounder. .... Edmonton is CRAZY to do that..but with what 4 first rounders..they can do that, and I would think that his agent has permission to get feelers from the other teams on parameters on possible extensions
I'd still be a little surprised if they end up with #16 instead of 33. Unless the Rangers throw in a 3rd and prospect.
I thought this board was done with the mods arbitrarily deleting posts on a thread. What was so bad that it was deleted?
Nothing. We have a couple tattle tales here that don't like anything negative pointed out on their views. Same old crap. Anyway, can't wait to see the return for Talbot. Should be exciting. I still don't see a match with the Oilers unless they give up the 16th, Fraser, a prospect and take Glass with Talbot.
Mark Spector says that the Oilers will pay the most for a goalie because they are desperate for one. (Sportsnet) The Oilers have been “lining up” for months to get Talbot and will part with defenseman Martin Marincin and “perhaps” the 33rd pick overall. Spector says that that offer “verges” on over-paying for Talbot.
If I could get Marincin and 33 I do that. Marincin is a good fit as an extra dman here, and of course 33 is a solid pick and makes up for us dealing away 28. If we get Marincin I would think Hunwick won't be brought back unless they deal Yandle, which I still don't see. I think Marincin has some upside, and good size as well. Wish he was a R, but I still think he is solid. Mid 2nd rounder a few years back.
Sounds like a 4th dman type: Talent Analysis Marincin is a lanky Slovak blueliner who is an excellent skater for his size and shows tremendous mobility. He uses his reach very effectively and his offensive instincts and skill set serve him well, both breaking out of his own zone and in a powerplay quarterback role. He can play with an edge (as was evidenced at the 2011 World Junior Championships) but is not overly physical. Since making the transition to the pro ranks, he has taken his game to the next level and was a real difference-maker in the for Oklahoma City in the 2013 AHL playoffs. Future Marincin is in his third pro season in North America in 2014-15 — splitting the year between the Oilers and AHL affiliate Oklahoma City. Marincin showed promise in a late season call-up last season but was in a lower pairing role, and a healthy scratch at times, during the first half of this season before being returned to the Barons in November. Since his recall at the beginning of February he is seeing steady ice time. Long-term Marincin doesn't figure to have much of an offensive component to his game nor is he overly punishing. His size and reach suggest he can be an effective middle pairing defensive defenseman in the future.
He's a slightly less physical Staal. Relies on his frame and reach to make plays defensively. I don't really see what the point of this would be. Not that hes a bad player, but theres already a logjam at left D with Skjei about half a year away. Unless Sather has something else in the works on top of this. Talbot is our best chip and I don't want to use him on a 7th D.
Of all the guys we could get in this deal for talbot is another LD where there is no need that has no offense, not a physical player and doesn't fill a need like rw that can score really what we want. I say hell no to Marincin keep taking offers which should get better the closer we get to the draft.
If Marincin can turn out to be a Hjalmarsson-type then they should nab him in the deal. If Edmonton had a B+forward instead for the deal i'd go that route but they don't really. Musil is a decent d-prospect too.
To me for Talbot, Marincin AND the 33rd pick would be a good return. Maybe that is the deal we make and maybe it isn't, but I think that would be a very good return for Talbot based on value alone. Maybe we will push for the 16th pick and/or a different prospect than Marincin, but if we end up with Mar and 33 I wouldn't be angry as I think that is great value for Talbot.
Good value, yes. But it's not just about value, it's also about need. I don't see how that trade makes us a better team. Left side D is probably the deepest position in the organization right now.
No need to trade a valuable chip like Talbot for a LH dman, makes absolutely no sense and doesn't address the Rangers needs. If that's all Edmonton is willing to offer then its time to see what the Sharks or Sabres are willing to part with.
His value really isn't all that great, being he's a UFA and already 27 y/o, plus limited games playing behind a very solid team. If you can get basically their 1st back(33rd vs 29th or whatever)+ another good dman for the farm which dosen't have many then you jump on it. If Edmonton ever gave the 16th for Talbot alone that GM should be fired.
Look around, see what it is out there, maybe try and get the 16th pick, but if we get 33 and Marincin for Talbot I wouldn't be upset. And if we found a better fit, maybe a R shot winger, I wouldn't be upset either. I don't think it would be a bad deal is my opinion. And I also don't think it is a deal we have to take for sure if we can get a better fit than a LD.
You're right chuck it's not a bad deal. But is this really the "home run" situation Dreger was talking about. Yeah he could be wrong, but he wasn't the only one saying that. Not to mention Marincin is an RFA this year. Another guy we' have to negotiate and get under contract with a raise, and I believe (could be wrong) that his waiver situation is similar to McIlrath's next year. It just doesn't make sense to me on a lot of levels. Why use our best trade chip on a defenseman when this team couldn't score in the playoffs to save their lives. Maximize value as it relates to the team's needs, don't just get the best value period. Its not the draft.
