...tote, another problem is that our best people are not teaching our children. In many other countries the people who graduate nearest the head of their class are the ones who become teachers. But here in the states, teachers are grossly underpaid and there's no real incentive for them to become teachers. So our kids get the bottom of the barrel for the most part. ...garbage in, garbage out.
Just the same way places like Harvard Business School runs sattelite courses. Video production and content from the best teachers. Self pacing modules and in room help/discipline. Education has lost structure. No way to enforce discipline. Too many agendas, focus is not technical enough. Math, science, analysis needs to be emphasized. Throwing money at teachers is not the solution. We did that to policemen and look what that gave us.....cops that don't know how to be cops. Giving good teachers raises, yes. But no more tenure....at will employment. No unions. No more junk agendas or social engineering experiments. I can go on and on. What is broken can be fixed but society has got to wake up. One of my former students in a HS teacher in LA at a tech oriented school. He's teaching chemistry, but sees other teachers "teaching climate science" and not presenting debate or all the data. Kids are being dealt incomplete and wrong facts. And he sees these faulty analysis skills impacting the ability of kids to solve problems. Bullying....rather than change human nature, teach kids how to mentally and physically deal with bullies. They will always exist in the world.
...not just "throwing money" at them...I'm not talking about simply a few measly dollars at teachers, cops too for that matter...I'm talking about making them Federal employees and paying them the kind of money that many government officials are paid...pay them like doctors, after all, they're just as valuable if not more so. I think that would attract a much better class of teachers. ...but I do agree about the "structure and discipline" need.
