Here's the thing. There isn't a player right now available that is a very high reward, low risk player like Hibbert. It's a 1 year trial. If Aldridge tells you "I will trust you and sign if you get Hibbert" then it's a win win scenario. You have 1 year to see, and if you don't get what you want, you drop his 15 mil in cap space and go after LBJ or Durrant next summer. Wouldn't we be in a better position to have that flexibility than to have players in contract and not enough cap space to get a marquee player like Durant next summer?

Hibbert isn't very high reward. He's sluggish, unathletic, and not skilled offensively. Why not stick with Plumlee and spend that $15M elsewhere?

Every big man on the market has flaws and is a costly commodity. I can't get fired up over the Monroe/Hibbert/Jordan debate for the simple reason that none of them are that great and all of them are (or will be) overpaid.

Maybe it's time to apply a bit of the "Moneyball" philosophy?

The problem with moneyball in the NBA is the X Factor..... the refs. They'll totally fuck you over with their superstar agenda.

Mason Plumlee is your perfect moneyball center

yeah but I don't think Hibbert would get calls and you don't want Jordan at the line, so I guess moneyball would at least work for centers

I don't believe that he's going to be as sluggish as you suggest. Remember how many criticized the Lopez Acquisition, claiming he couldn't rebound or score? His first year, he was an immediate improvement! Hibbert has more talent, better anticipation for help d and I believe a better rebounder. If Olshey does get Hibbert, all of you guys will be surprised!

Also, his contract is only 1 year. It's not like he's a 15 mil for the next 3 player. Getting Jordan would force us to guarantee at least 56 mil.

an improvement over the 6'8 JJ Hickson at starting center? Not saying much. Rolo is an average to below average starting center. Hibbert is the exact same player, just 2 inches taller with attitude problems and a bad contract.

yeah, a year in which we have tons of cap space to add multiple role players and difference makers that we could instead use gambling on an average center with attitude problems. Think about it.

Better to have cap space next summer, actually.

We will have even more cap space next year, if we don't resign Hibbert.

I've suggested trading for Wilson Chandler who has 1 year left. Most free agents will want a one year deal anyways.

I agree with u mags.. If it was like 2-3 years left on it then I'd be like no way but it's freaking one year on it remaining. Besides if all hell breaks and he sucks shit he would be a fantastic expiring deal at the deadline. It's worth a shot although I really think LMA is gone. There's just no indication he wants anything to do with this franchise and city..

Yes, I was talking specifically about June 30. After that, cap space is fine to use, though until August 24 you still can only trade Henderson, Vonleh or Plumlee by themselves.
