Of course, Brooks just wrote one of his dumbest articles in a long time. Reading his crap, you would think Hagelin was a 50 point, 25 goal player.
Saved 650 K against the cap as well, Raanta has a 750 K cap hit and Talbot is at 1.4 mill. With that 650 K and maybe 2.5 mill saved on Hags to Etem, we are in a much better position cap wise now. Need another winger badly though.
It will be even better if they sign him to a similar extension next year like Talbot at 1.5. Let BA work with him and if he has a great year, trade him for picks at the draft. Then let one of our young goalies take over.
They talk about Sather botching the Talbot deal. What probably happened was when Gropp was there at 41 and they had this kid as the 6th best forward in the entire draft, they said F it, traded Hagelin to insure getting him, got a kid in Etem who they think might be a 20+ goal wing for them, then said screw it, let's take a 2nd and 3rd and go get some of the European players our scouts really liked. Essentially, they drafted a kid who they obviously think is close to a can't miss, power forward down the line, got younger and cheaper with Etem and then stocked up on European prospects. In reality, they stole Raanta. So as one person said, they traded Haggerty and Talbot and got Raanta, a 2nd, 3rd and 6th. I'd do that deal because they ended up not losing a backup goalie. Raanta probably has a chance under BA to be as good as Talbot. I hope they can sign him for next year this summer on a one year extension then deal him like Talbot. I wa hoping for a young player in the Talbot deal but they got one back for Hagelin. I wouldn't rule out the team moving Allen with Glass to a team like Dallas who really likes Glass for prospect like Glennie who is probably a bust but as a right handed shot still might be worth a look.
Glennie never panned out i guess and Ritchie still hasn't either but i think they still have hopes for him. Faska is another one.
