Seems like he got offered more and waited too long and screwed himself. Though, I like trading Hagelin. I had no interest paying him over 3 million.
Traded 57 to Washington for 62 and 113. Looks like they are stockpiling picks. My guess is they want some picks for their Euro scouts and players they liked.
From Andrew Gross "When asked what the #FlaPanthers offered for Cam Talbot, Dale Tallon spit "a lot. A whole lot." Sounds like he thought Panthers had it." I highly doubt that. Tallon is really smart. I seriously doubt he offered up a whole lot. If he did, Sather would have taken the deal.
Florida probably offered what they thought was alot but not much different than what Edmonton did. If they couldve gotten Howden and a 2nd i'd have taken it.
I don't see much upside there jam, and on top of that they now save 650 K against the cap this summer to add the top 6 winger they need badly. Move had to be made this weekend, what you could argue is Sather should have pulled the trigger sooner and we maybe could have gotten more. I also think the Panthers may have offered more, but we wanted Talbot out West. With that said we got 2nd and 3rd round picks for him, so not bad and we move on now.
A little more evidence that maybe Sather waited too long to pull the trigger on Cam: Chiarelli said that the Rangers price for Talbot went down as time went on and after Robin Lehner and some of the other goalies were moved. (Oilers) Oilers assistant GM Bill Scott said that the Oilers patience paid off and that they think they paid “fair value” for Talbot. He said that they didn’t want to overpay because Talbot is a UFA after the season. He said that they will investigate extending Talbot when they are allowed on January 1. (Oilers)
There were better deals likely for Talbot that Sather didn't make but in the grand scheme of things it's not a terrible deal. They got a 2nd and 3rd for a player who only had 20 GMs tops left as a Ranger and Sather did well on getting Talbots replacement. I think in general the goalie market was softer then most thought. Sather likely could have gotten a better return for Talbot earlier but I'm fine w the moves
