There's always your next post, for example. Let me pause to absorb this massive shock to my mental furniture. No, I can't do it. I can't accept it. Amazingly enough, it's helpful to have at least a couple of players who can play defense to make up for the flaws of those who can't. Unless you're suggesting we can just sit one of our less useful player on the basket to prevent the other team's ball going through.
I don't think it's as simple as 1-2-3 (because what ever is). You're not going to accomplish step 2 unless you can convince Aldridge that we're not going to be shit. If all he has to look at is the decimated roster we now have, you better just hope he's all about the money. So you need to have some indication that there are players who will agree to come here that will work with him. Now, it's possible that Olshey actually has some fiendish plan that will bring LeBron and Marc Gasol here and can put that to Aldridge and we're going to be an unstoppable dynasty. God I hope so. I will kiss Neil Olshey's feet if that happens. But if Monroe is really our major target, then we're screwed: mediocrity here we come. I'll certainly watch the games, but if RHJ is killing it for the Nets, it will not improve my mood.
Yeah I think he is open to a change depending on the core rotational personal. When we had JJ Hickson we had bigs jumping pick and rolls. Then we added Rolo and changed to have the guard fight through the screen but bigs sag back. Once Neil is done assembling the roster I believe Stotts will be open any system that best fits the roster.
But you have clearly made your comments based on partial plans. And what happens if Aldridge is actually in communication with what's going on, which seems like is happening. I don't think Olshey makes the past moves without Aldridge being fine with the progress. Lets let this thing finish before we throw our GM under the bus
I think LMA is going to require us to do step 3 before he will do step 2. So essentially those have to be reversed.
How many of the last.. 10 championship teams had an elite rim protector playing 30+mpg? 2? The 07 Spurs and '11 Mavs? Don't give me bogut either cuz his ass got benched. Don't give me the Celtics either because there defense was predicated on KG LOCKING down the pick n roll, additionally, the PNR is the most frequently used play..stop or slow that and you win games. That's what the Celtics defense was predicated on. Don't get beat on the outside and you don't need someone to clean up your mistakes.. I'll concede we don't have the wing defenders for that..yet.. but rim protection is becoming less important because the evolution of the game.
Why'd he get benched then? Why'd the series change when he stopped playing 30+ minutes? Answer that and I'll retract that statement. Until then, you just have some weird bone to pick with me while providing no evidence to the contrary. It's not like mozgov stopped playing. He was still out there. So what is it? Bynum...I don't recall being a great defender with his knee problems but he was a monster on offense..
My point is that it's way too early to panic, or to even have a reasonable idea of what the final product will look like, however... How about this: (done) step 1) Remove all large contracts from the team, while getting young "high upside" players. (working on it) step 2) Getting a highly thought of player on our roster (via trade or FA) forming a "Big 3". step 3) Get Aldridge to sign step 4) spend $$ to make the pieces fit. we're working on step 2, and many are bitching that we're not done with step 4! Give it some time. The good news is that summer league will come soon and be a pleasant distractor.
Bynum and Gasol on those championship teams were arguably the best rim protector tandem in the league. I think both had more than 2 blocks a game. As for GS.... The championship wasn't just the last 3 games of post season. Bogut was #2 in the entire league for FG% at the rim. They relied heavily on Bogut, and mainly the threat of Bogut down low, to help them on their #1 defense in the league
You've seen the stats that they are about the same, if not better, defensively playing small ball, right? I'll give you the Lakers though. But offensively I'd say those two were far superior...so the last consistent team to do it was the Lakers
Getting better defensively is on Stotts, he has a good vase of players with defensive potential. Still if we are gonna contend we will need some size that has been deep into the playoffs. Assuming Aldridge comes back of course. I think a good start would be a major block buster type trade where we take on a lot of salary but it can be expiring salary. Portland: Joe Johnson and Roy Hibbert Indiana: Gerald Henderson and Chris Kaman Brooklyn: cap space Then we can go out and sign Aminu with the full MLE. Fill the rest of the roster with vet min guys like Ish Smith, Francisco Garcia and Greg Stiemsma Lillard / Smith / Frazier Johnson / CJ / Crabbe Aminu / Connaughton / Garcia Aldridge / Leonard / Vonleh Hibbert / Plumlee / Stiemsma Certainly better defensively than last season.
