I don't understand why we'd let Kaman go.

to free up some money. Other than that, that's the only reason in my mind. Kaman will be a great end of bench coach for our young bigs now. :) Just re-sign the big three and we stay in the mix one more year until more cap space is available to go after a third max while maxing Lillard.
I am NOT a fan of getting rid of Kaman IMO

Yeah I don't think I would go with Budinger.

I get what you're saying. I mean, I know getting rid of him gets us a little money. I still don't understand why we'd get rid of Kaman. His contract is small. We're going to have to sign someone to fill his roster spot. Keeping him seems like a bigger asset than letting him go. I feel like we should at least be able to get a future second rounder for him between now and the deadline, especially if he plays like he did this year. Plus, he's a valuable teacher to our young big men, which our future heavily weighs on the development of Nards and Noah (as long as Noah remains here).

I thinks it's timing. If his option was late July, I would suspect we would definitely keep him. But if his contract kicks in, we would be under 5 mil to offer max to another player

I've always said a guy like Kaman is valuable insurance even at the bottom of the bench...Clavers old spot even.

I'd do Kaman for PJ Tucker

I would let Kaman go because we currently have a logjam of young guys. Leonard, Plumlee, Vonleh, etc.

I already understand this. But I don't think it's a wise decision is my point, all things considered.

Neil got kamans replacement last night. He specifically even mentioned how Plumlee could be a "high end backup if we go out in free agency and bring back robin or sign somebody else"

I know. I just think Kaman is cheap, he's been good for development. He's like Joel P., but with offense.

I also (already) keep forgetting we have Plumlee - my mind is trying to block that from memory.

When asked about Kaman, Olshey said "Chris who?" Now he may have just been joking around... But I doubt it. This is Olsheys summer he is going to swing as big as he can.

It's also interesting that olshey then mentioned he wouldn't answer about Kaman because that was a free agency question. Does that mean he's planning on releasing him? I'd bet it does.

They only have one more day to decide what to do with him, right? They must be working the phones left and right to find any takers.

I expect us to cut him tomorrow. If he has trade value we would've dumped him. That tells me teams with cap room and non-guaranteed contracts right now aren't interested in adding him for $5 million. Depending on who we get in free agency we can always look at bringing him back. Maybe when all is said and done we have that $4 million he would've been paid available under the cap and we just give it back to him. Or maybe he even accepts the room exception or the vet minimum. But when you have the massive holes in a starting lineup that we have you can't worry about your 5th big man.
