The key phrase in this article is room for a "bottom six forward" and 7th dman. I dont want a bottom six forward damnit, there's still a gaping hole in the top 6.

I guess Santorelli would make the most sense here, he's a right shot and can take faceoffs. He's not huge like you pointed out, but remember that we're subtracting Hagelin and MSL (two of the smallest guys on the team) and Santorelli is bigger than both of them. Not to mention we have Etem at 6'1 210.

Very underwhelmed with this list. I hope this doesnt mean they are going to ride the Kreider-Stepan-Fast line from the playoffs.

Kreider-Stepan-Fast line was very good. If they can't sign a top 6 guy then they should keep that line together.... Fast can put up Hags numbers...

Out of that list I like Matthias the most. I watched a few Canucks games last year and that guy really used his size well.. He was playing with Dorsett and Hansen so he worked hard for those goals.

Btw what jackass for Newsday wrote that article? Matthias hasnt been on the Panthers since a few years ago

As far as free agents go Williams or Stewart are guys I would like to see them add.. Only problem is $ and term... Williams won't take $3 mil for 3 years, same with Stewart..

But hey, if they sign Matthias maybe they will move Hayes to wing and we could be a Kreider-Stepan-Hayes line

Matthias is a guy I wanted them to deal for. He absolutely sucks on faceoffs so he's not playing center. Fehr won 52% of his draws, has size and is a right handed shot. I don't think he's going to be cheap for that reason. I don't think Matthias will be cheap either. These guys will all be overpaid in FA unless they want to take less to go somewhere.

Stand by my first plan. Ship Glass out of town and get Bernier here for the 4th line.

People on HF suggesting we look at Semin if his buyout goes through...I mean he's right handed, that's about the only thing I like about him. What a head case that guy is.

If he signed for one-year like 2 mill or so, we could do a lot worse than Semin. He has always had a great shot and is very good on the PP. He would actually be a decent add fit wise...but yeah he is a head case and wouldn't be my first choice.

well you have to think he'd be cheap, coming off a buyout. He's a right handed, shoot first guy who is big on the PP. But there's red flags all over with him. Some of the caps guys were openly questioning his commitment in interviews a few years ago.

And there's always the question of whether him and Staal can get along :)

    He's beating the drums!

If you can get Semin for 2 million one year contract, you take and run with it.

Semin sucks. He needs to go to the KHL

If nothing else I guess he would be worth a shot... Idk

Then again, Russians like playing on broadway, even though the Zherdevs of the world were duds. Could be worth it for a year. None of the others do enough offensively. I still say make a play for Boedker, give them Fast/Tambellini and a 2nd.

They love playing on Broadway because they become very distracted, for every Anisimov there are more Enver Lisins, Frolovs, Zherdevs....maybe I'm just biased, and I understand that for the price Semin can provide exactly what we need. There are just a lot of red flags with him. Our leaders really need to be on their game if he is going to be part of the room. I mean just look at these quotes from teammates:

“Some nights you didn’t even know if [Semin] was gonna come to the rink,” Caps forward Troy Brouwer said. “It’s tough to play alongside guys like those because you don’t know what you’re gonna get out of ‘em.” (source: http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/the-polarizing-return-of-former-caps-winger-alexander-semin/article/2522526?custom_click=rss)

Former Capitals winger Matt Bradley said in a radio interview Wednesday that ex-teammate Alexander Semin “just doesn’t care,” and that the Russian sniper didn’t show up when Washington needed him in the playoffs.
Bradley, who signed with the Florida Panthers in July as an unrestricted free agent, also told Ottawa’s TEAM 1200 that the Capitals’ locker room was “maybe a little bit too nonchalant” and undisciplined. (source: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...t-doesnt-care/2011/08/17/gIQA40sELJ_blog.html)

Not exactly ringing endorsements for this guy. But like the second quote says, this was a room led by a still immature Ovechkin. Maybe the winning vibe our room has can break him of that. But it's a huge risk, even at a cheap price.

    " Boedker, give them Fast/Tambellini and a 2nd"

Get off the crack. No more giving picks away. No more giving prospects away for a non game breaker who isn't in his early 20's. Enough. Fast will play a big role on this team. Tambellini is a big centerman who gets better every year.

I want Matthias also. Hope they are targeting
him. No way on Semin.....plays when he feels
    like it and that's seldom.

We shall see what tomorrow brings.

Ranger71, how about a moratorium on giving
teams good players & picks at will.

Fast is replaceable but Tambellini is actually someone I'd prefer to keep, but you can't wait another 3y for him to actually help. If you're lacking cap space you need to get a little creative to get an impact scorer.

That would be interesting to say the least. Maybe he'd see it as a last shot to regain things.

I'd rather sign Williams at $3.5 again but he will prob get more than that

Belesky is going to get overpaid.

Mike Richards cheap is a useful player too but who knows about his Canadian Mounty case, prob was bringing coke over border

Maybe but he has never played a NHL playoff game. Williams scores big goals, has 3 cups a Conn Smythe and is 7-0 in G7's. All things being equal I will take Williams :)
