Comedian Jack Carter, who starred as himself in the Elvis Presley 1964 film Viva Las Vegas, died on 28 June at the age of 93. Carter was known for his caustic comedy style and had a career on stage and television that lasted for more than 50 years. He was born in New York on June 24 1922. He joined a stock company after high school and was drafted during World War Two, when he toured with an Irving Berlin show.
