Am I just being a homer or is he being slept on as an NBA prospect?I think this guy is worthy of a late first round pick or early 2nd but all the mock drafts I've seen have him going late 2nd or not being drafted at all. I mean he's incredibly fast, has good courtvision, is a good passer, he can score when he needs to, and he posseses good leadership.
I agree, he's being overlooked but he's definitely not played up to his potential at Arizona. I'm willing to bet you a lot that this guy shoots up and becomes a late first rounder when the camps role around. I'm confident in that. He's big, long arms and quick as well.
BCB summed it up perfectly. Shakur is very talented and he has a lot of skills, but he hasn't quite lived up to the expectations that were set for him when he came out of high school. I think he has late first round potential, but I am willing to bet that he is an early 2nd round pick (31-40 range). I definitely like his game though. He can score the ball by penetrating or hitting some open outside jumpers, he's extremely fast, he's a solid ballhandler, and he's long. But, his defense and decision making needs work.
The dude had a lot of hype coming out of high school. He hasn't lived up to it yet, though. But yeah, he could be a sleeper second round pick if he starts to show some maturity. He must have some skill for being that hyped on and all
maturity? The guy has shown a lot more maturity this season imo and has really been the leader of the team this season. Based on the fact that everything else you said was just what BCB and CB said have you ever even watched Mustafa Shakur play?

I mean, he had so much hype and wasn't living up to it. I mean really, he was like the OJ Mayo of his class, and he's totally blown all his oppurtunities so far. That's very immature.

He has not blown all his oppurtunities this year at all because he has looked very good so far this season and still has the tourny and predraft camps to prove himself. I mean he's averaging 7.5 apg and 13.5 ppg as the 5TH scoring option on the team. He's also averaging 45. rpg and 1.5 spg. He's looking very good so far this season and imo is actually living up to his hype this season. It's just being covered up by players like Marcus Williams and Chase Budinger.

Just because Shakur didn't live up to expectations doesn't mean he's immature at all. I don't get where your going with this.
Am I the only one who thinks he's really making up for his lack of progress? I mean he's third in the nation in assists, is averaging 13.5 ppg as a 5th option on the team and is shooting 52% at that. Not too mention 43% from beyond the arc. He's shown a lot of leadership this season and has gotten Arizona out of trouble a few times this season. He's having a really impressive year it's just being overshadowed by guys like budinger and Williams.

Rudy Gay didn't exactly live up to the hype at UCONN and he's having a great year in Memphis now..Shakur started the season off slow, but he's really turned into a great PG now for Arizona, if he can have some good draft workouts and continue to play well, I can see him being a low 1st rounder, and end up being a steal in the draft.
I think he will go early in the second round and hopefully my Hornets can pick him up. He's a very versatile player and I think he could have a solid NBA career. He definitely isn't getting the credit he deserves because he is overshadowed by Marcus Williams and such. I don't think Shakur is where Salim Stoudemire was at this point in his career, but I think he may have more potential. He is one of my favorite players to watch in college hoops.
21 points and 11 assists tonight against 24 ranked Washington. Told you guys he really is living up to his expectations this season. The guys been on fire the last 4 or 5 games.
Shakur played great last night. I think his size is his biggest downfall in the draft (thinks Ryan Gomes), but he definitely has all the tools to be a solid NBA player.
