Max offer to Deandre, use remaining space for Gerald Green, CJ Watson, Ed Davis. Lillard/Watson/Frazier Henderson/McCollum/Crabbe Aminu/Green Leonard/Davis/Vonleh Jordan/Plumlee/Kaman
With 15-17 teams loaded with capspace next summer, if we're one of those teams next year that just makes it even less likely we can nab somebody that matters. So I'd zig while everybody else is zagging. Try to absorb some contracts by teams that want to dump players, try to buy some picks, trade for players and picks and give yourself as many opportunities to draft some difference makers as you can and see if you can't trade for some guys that can help. If Neil's plan is to chase max free agents next summer we're probably fucked.
We got spurned by fucking Greg Monroe. What makes you think DeAndre even bats an eye at our max offer?
The only way that works is if LA actually wants to go play for Houston and if Houston is feeling generous. We have zero leverage aside from the extra money we can offer, but with the cap growing geometrically next year Lamarcus would actually be best served to take a 3 year deal and get himself back on the market as quickly as he can when a max contract is going to be even bigger. A five year deal for a player of his caliber probably isn't as appealing as you might think.
His relationship with Olshey, along with his stated desire to be a larger part of the offense in whatever team he joins. Sure, it's a longshot, but if I'm Neil, I'm not about to just give up simply because we missed out on Monroe and Aldridge.
The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of Ed Davis. He's 25, athletic, and had a 20 PER in LA last year. The metrics indicate that he's pretty decent defensively, he shot 60% last year, is a solid rebounder. I think he would be an excellent fit.
I have some hope that lillard will be a drawing point to another star next year, maybe 2. He needs to take a big step forward this year though.
This isn't bad, I'd b ok w/ this Although if not this... even more possible (that I'd b ok w/) w/ the free agents left... would b: getting the other Jordan (Hill) & Ish Smith & trade Utah for Rodney Hood (he's too good/too much potential to just b a backup to Alec Burks; Hood could b our starting shooting guard BUT IF CJ can outplay him then Hood might b able to b 6th man of the yr. w/ us!).
First move I make is to not renew my season tickets since my family has had since 1978. This is so tiring.. We can't even get Greg monroe. Going through a rebuild every 3 years is no way to keep fans. Plus this whole lma is gone... So disappointing. Neil had me fooled
Davis seems to b turning a corner for the better. This would b the opportune time to nab him for cheap! If we're wrong... not much of a gamble to find out which way he goes.
I know most ppl believe it's fact that LMA's gone (admittedly some things don't look good) but my stance is/has been I'll actually believe he's gone once he's really gone (only a few more days & we'll know for sure of course). In the meantime, whether he's here or not, my mindset/FA ideas work whether he's here or not & STILL make us competitive, surprisingly dangerous, fun to watch, & leave us w/ great flexibility!
Alternate version: Max offer to Tobias Harris, sign Ed Davis, Derrick Williams, CJ Watson. Lillard/Watson/Frazier Henderson/McCollum/Crabbe Harris/Aminu Davis/Williams/Vonleh Leonard/Plumlee/Kaman I think I like my first version better.
He also wants to win, and he couldn't get past the second round with Blake Griffin and Chris Paul. What makes him believe he even makes the playoffs here? Is Al-Farouq Aminu suddenly going to average a triple double?
That's great that he wants to win but right now what are his options? Dallas? If he wants to have a bigger role I'd rather play with Lillard than chandler parsons. If he really wanted to win he would just stay in LA
What's left to blow up? Keep Kaman and trade him at the deadline to a contender/playoff team that needs a center. Bigs are valuable, especially at the trade deadline when some contender will have an injured center. Worst place to be in the NBA is 35-45 wins and the 8-14th pick year in and year out. You either want to contend or suck so you get great lottery picks, especially if you are a team where pulling FAs is tough. Start Lillard, McCollum, Aminu, Vonleh/Meyers, Plumlee. Sign zero vets and fill out the bench with all young prospects with potential. So Henderson and young guys on the bench. Full youth movement, which would put us near the bottom of the league so we get a top 3 or 4 draft pick. Build through high lottery picks. Last time it took one draft - 06, to lay the foundation for the future. We have Lillard. We need two more high lottery picks.
With Monroe out of the picture..I'd re-sign Joel Freeland tomorrow. Go hard after Tobias Harris with the big bucks and hope LA sticks around
