In the crush of this week, it's interesting to see what we're not doing that's actually good: We aren't overpaying for guys like Ed Davis or Aminu; sure we're signing them, but for value contracts. Despite the silence, despite "Plan A" not going to plan, we're not acting desperate. This is not something I'm used to seeing out of Portland's front office. It makes me happy.
Maybe so... certainly any of these guys could perform well and then get traded for picks and junk in February, giving us a true reload.
Maybe Olshey is a few rungs down on his contingencies, but I appreciate the lack of panicking on their part. I think it gives Olshey a chance create the roster 100% his own now.
I don't know the stages of grief, but I'm heading into acceptance. I think the team will be young and exciting.
Honestly, I'm excited to see SAC if they keep Cousins and add Rondo and Wes. They'll probably become my second favorite team - they have the potential to be a defensive juggernaut while having a potent offense.
Yeah remember when the Hawks signed Millsap, Korver, Carroll, and Teague all on cheap contracts? They first struck out on the top free agents. That would be the ideal model.
I was already pretty excited about the team. I might be even more excited now that we'll be forced into developing guys who need minutes to develop. If we had gotten Monroe and LMA then Vonleh wouldn't get any minutes, and Meyers would be an after-thought playing the same role he played last season. I'm excited to throw these guys in the fire and temper them!
Cousins and Rondo is exciting, but only if you've ever wanted to see two teammates have a fist fight during a game.
Yeah I want to see Wes get a near max contract and return to form. He will be my favorite non-Blazer to root for in the league. Hell if he could get that Sacramento team to the playoffs he will be a legend.
I'm hoping for a "thick as thieves" scenario. Just because two guys are known to be temperamental hot-heads doesn't automatically mean they'll clash - they could see eye-to-eye and create a tight bond. Unlikely perhaps, but not out of the question.
Haha. Perhaps we should set a trap in the visitors locker room when he returns. Burning cactus up the butt.
I also think it's interesting that we've paid 50M to guys who were on minimum contracts last year. It seems that if NO knew that Aminu was going to be good he could've picked him up for literally a veteran minimum exception last year with no impact on cap space. Who's this year's model? Jimmer? Mike Muscala?
According to Woj, we're still trying to keep cap space to sign LA and RoLo, which is why the only players we're signing are dirt cheap.
