It looks like the Blazers will lose LaMarcus Aldridge to FA'cy with absolutely nothing in return. It doesn't happen very often that an A-List Free Agent leaves but in Portland's case, it has happened over and over again for different reasons.

Oden and Roy were incredible talents lost to injury that the Blazers never even had the chance to trade or get something back. So those to Lottery picks left for nothing. Now LaMarcus will leave for nothing as well. That is the #1, #2 and #6 picks that Portland has gotten nothing in return for.

    Historically unfortunate.

I dare say no other team in NBA history has had so many high draft picks leave for absolutely nothing. Don't even talk to me about losing the coin flip or not being able to get Sabonis until he was old and injured. This team could have been championship relevant in every decade except for injuries to Walton, lost the coin flip for Olajuwon and then not drafting Jordan, not getting Sabonis early, injuries to Oden/Roy and now Aldridge leaving for nothing.

What more can happen to the Blazers? Where is the return on investment for so many years of things that could have or should have gone better?

Seriously, It is the stuff that documentaries are made of. Name another franchise in any sport that has had the types of decimating injuries or just bad luck as has happened to the Trail Blazers. Even when they do the right thing (Roy/Aldridge) it doesn't work out.

I don't dwell on shitty thing in our past. LMA is a current problem, and I think Olshey is doing a good job considering we are losing a top player. However, we have no idea if we are losing him truly for nothing. If he goes to the heat or Suns, we will likely get a decent part back. If he goes to the Spurs, we only get something back if Aldridge refuses to sign unless they do a sign and trade so he can make the most possible. We will know soon enough.

I don't believe in curses. Portland has always been a very fical environment for sports teams. This just isn't a place that pro athletes want to come too. And I don't see it changing. The team doesn't do a very good job of selling itself. We are a good farm team for free agents though. I am surprised Allen has kept the team here, really.

If Aldridge chooses to go to Phoenix doesn't it have to be a sign & trade or can they just sign him?

The clippers had top 5 picks for 20 years with nothing to show for it.

Shit happens, at least their flames burned bright for a glorious moment.

True but their management was the most incompetent in league history outside of old Ted Stepien in Cleveland many years ago.

besides the lucky few, every team is snakebit

if anything, we are teased with crawling out of the pit more often than other teams, but we have had a pretty decent run all things considered.

I figured there had to be a Cub reference somewhere. They had a long, bad run but was their the bad luck, injuries or pure misfortune that has besot the Blazers?

all of the above. risking it all on roy's known knee problems and significant questions surrounding odens health, the cold war-detante and trying for sbonis were all high risk high reward gambles IMO
