If you were to describe the American League East in 2015 with just one word, "parity" would be a good choice.

There aren't any traditional juggernaut teams in the division, meaning we could be in for quite a division title race. As of Thursday morning, four teams in the AL East are within one game of the leader. The quartet of competitive teams -- sorry, Boston Red Sox fans, but your team is seven games back -- are unusually closely matched, and with the trade deadline at the end of this month, there are some big decisions for each team to make in the near future.

When I say unusually close, how unusual am I talking about? Looking back at past seasons, the previous time a division had a fourth-place team this close to the leader on the morning of July 2 was . . . well, never. It hasn't happened during the divisional era. To find a closer race, you have to go back to the 1962 American League standings, when the fourth-place Twins were just half a game out of the lead.

"Let's talk again when we're heading into the final month".

    ?

Why should we we wait until the final month?
I must've missed something....., the current topic and point regarding this race is.... ➡It's an established fact that RIGHT NOW....today...here and NOW this is THE CLOSEST division race in history.

If you don't find this interesting or newsworthy....so be it.

You just can't wait for the Yanks to falter and fade.....can't you?

    Lol

Yanks + Baltimore = 4 games away from the best record in the league.
I guess the difference between a "weak" division and a "good" division on July 2 is four games.

And don't give me the Cardinals......the team with the BEST ML record rarely wins the WS in the past 10-20 years. LMAO.

I thought you could use a laugh.

I think that's already been proven. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Okay, I had a nice laugh.....now don't spoil it by actually believing what you said.
And......may I add, not to pat myself on the back, but I believe you just learned something when I posted the article stating this is the CLOSEST division race this late in a season amoung four teams since division play began.

    Reading is good!

This LATE in the season, this is the perfect example why others here say that you cherry pick, we're not even halfway through the season yet. This is like saying after 20 games that 4 of the 5 teams in the division are all 10-10. Its WAY to early in the season yet to point out such a ridiculous stat. As I pointed out earlier that if this is still the case after say 130-140 games now that would be something. Now don't get me wrong, I don't see any team in the east running away with the division & it may very end up come September 1st that all these teams are separated by 6-7 games, but lets wait & see what happens by then. This early, I really don't think anyone (except you) gives a rats ass. No offense.

So you really missed the whole point, and don't find it at least a bit newsworthy that this "late" in the season (July2 at the time of the writing), this is the closest four teams have been to each other since divisional play began.

Nothing--- you drew a blank. lol

    Same boring mantra:
wait until the last month...it's a weak division and it doesn't matter if "they" win a mediocre or weak division.

Okay, thanks for the tip, I guess I can shut off my TV and radio until September.

    Speaking of thinking "independently".......
Lemme ask a couple of questions:
If there were four teams in the A.L. East with 47 wins and seperated by one game on this date, would that make it more interesting?

Would it make it more interesting or provide some guarantee the winner would have a better chance of advancing in the playoffs?

You're idea of thinking this is "cherry picking" because this happens to be THE latest date for such a situation is off base. IMHO.
It is what it is....and THIS is an actual significant date for such an occurance because it is THE latest point of any season of divisional play regarding the closeness of four teams.

What it be "cherry picking" if it were the same at the All-Star break?
Would THAT also be "cherry picking" and too "early" to recognize the uniqueness of the situation/standings?

We all know one or two teams may eventually pull away from the pack in the coming weeks and months...but this is about HERE and now....and it's historically close....and according to MY book, this is good drama and entertainment - today...not September or next year...LMAO. Enjoy the season and stop being a killjoy.

No, this is a perfect example of you cherry picking a stat ("after 20 games") for some strange reason to downplay and not appreciate the historical significance and situation which the article was pointing out.
Point/fact - up until NOW, there can only be ONE date, ONE point of the season when it is the LATEST for 4 teams to be within ONE game of each other, and as of now...THIS is the latest date.....not after "20 games". It may change today...it could remain longer...but THIS is the LATEST day.....not after 20 games...not after 50 games...but on July 2.....there's only ONE July 2 on the calendar.

    Jeez.

Maybe you need to have 4 teams seperated by a one game on the last day of the season to enjoy this race...okay, fair enough, that would really be exciting.
