I like what you're getting at. One change though, Meyers in the starting lineup over Davis. We'd need his shooting.
It's not just free agents, we can trade for bigger contracts... We can absorb good players who make a little more than they're worth.
No I don't think I want DeRozan; it likely costs us CJ and Meyers. I'd rather aim for a player we don't have to trade away other assets for. Utah played great post allstar break and we will be far behind them. Harris will get matched at the max; Orlando has nothing else to spend cap money on. As you are I'm also excited to see what the final pieces of our cap room bring. Heck we have $28 million to spend. But I'm going to be realistic with my expectations. We can't get players with positive trade value such as DeRozan or Tobias Harris for free.
The rumor is that Orlando will NOT match Harris - they just spend a lotto pick on one, and have a third that they like as well. I don't have inside info. on what they'll want for DeRozan, but the rumor is that he's on the block because they don't want to pay him next year. I am not completely pulling this out of my a$$, it's realistic according to the rumors that are currently out there.
For all of you in here clamoring for Tobias Harris you do understand that he has never played a full season of NBA basketball right? Dude is injured every season...
Not sure if I like the idea of giving Harris the max. Yes theres upside since he's 22 but I don't know if its allstar upside. He will always have defensive limitations. Is that the best pairing with Dame? If we get one way players think I'd rather target defensive forwards. Afflalo also put up nice stats on horrific Orlando teams. If we max him and are wrong about his production that could be a contract which really prevents us from improvements down the road. The thing I really like about the Aminu/Ed Davis contracts is even if they become crap players we could move those deals easily as part of a bigger trade. But the Harris contract has the potential to be really bad. If he doesn't get matched thats a giant red flag; what do the Magic know we don't? How good is his work ethic after getting a huge pay day? I'll trust Neil on this one.
I'm down for that plan, but I don't know about some of the people in the organization. I don't think Lillard wants to waste his a couple years in the lottery. He's a fierce competitor and would hate losing so much. But convincing Paul Allen might be harder. Ever since his health deteriorated several years ago, he seems impatient to rebuild. However, if there ever was a time to suck, it'd be these next 2 seasons where our 1st round pick is in jeopardy.
