It depends on the price, i wouldn't give him MAX but around 10 or 11Mil' per year for 3yrs is reasonable. Two things to remember at our current situation: 1. Beggars can't be choosers. 2. He is an asset we can trade down the line (always think what Darryl Murray would do).
Kind of funny, but looking at OPP fg% at the rim, Meyers Leonard ranks as the 3rd best center in the league =) http://stats.nba.com/tracking/#!/pl...GE*1&Season=2014-15&SeasonType=Regular Season
Blazers aren't beggars. It's not looking like were planning on contending so why commit to contracts we don't want to commit to?
Damian's defensive dashboard is interesting. He brings shots beyond 15 feet down, but shots within 10 feet go up massively. I'm wondering if this is Portland's problem with the pick and roll, people blowing by him.
In rebuild mode best thing to do is have as many assets as possible and hope they develop. I would definitely take a flier on overpaying Kanter if Lamarcus leaves. Hopefully he chooses Phoenix and we can work a S&T.
We finally get rid of an unconventional PF whose main deal is to shoot a lot, so now you all want a plodding center whose only talent is to shoot a lot. Ever heard of, the bigs rebound and clog the middle, the wings shoot, and the playmaker sets it up?
And CJ had a better negative net DFG% than Wesley Matthews! Wes was -3.2% which is good, but CJ -5%, that's suprising.
But the D back in Leonard, these stats say he's a good defender http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/203086/tracking/defense/
Davis is a PF/C. Finding time for all these PF/C's is going to be tricky. Leonard/Plumlee/Davis/Kaman Aminu/Vonleh
If you have too many "assets", some of them won't get a chance to develop. Rudy Gobert only blossomed when they'd unloaded Kanter (essentially for peanuts - and I don't think they're regretting that). I'm really hoping the Lakers throw big money at Kanter. That would be perfect.
So if Aminu is our PF, who are our small forwards? Looks like we have nobody right now. I think Alonzo Gee would be a good backup, he's had an overall -8% defense rating last season...which is on the level of Tony Allen.
The minute they signed Aminu and weren't able sign Monroe they became beggars. No one wants to sign via free agency and building thru the draft takes ages. How are you going to acquire assets? Do you think Daryl Morey ever wanted to pay Kevin Martin 12mil' a year? heck no! but he knew he had to acquire assets and use them when another team will want to get rid of an under-appreciated star (Harden). Maybe we can sign Kanter and then exploit someone with no experience like Vivek and get Cousins for the Turk+Aminu or something.
