Seriously, how can this man function when his brain clearly fell out of his head. He says the O'Reilly deal is bad news for signing Stepan. Trade or 2 year arbitration possible. Larry 1. You're a moron 2. Retire 3. Stupid contracts given out by stupid teams don't set the market. Especially when it's the Sabres. 4. Teams have to reach the cap floor and sometimes overpay. Do some research you moron. 5. O'Reilly has a history of greed. GM's are not going to look at a desperate, lousy club like Buffalo and use his contract as a benchmark.
I couldn't agree with you more on this one dump. Because the Sabres, a bad team with tons of cap space, WAY WAY WAY overpaid for ROR doesn't mean we will do the same with Stepan, and most importantly doesn't mean Stepan will be stupid enough to expect the Rangers to match the awful deal the Sabres handed out. I think Step is smart and wants to win. I truly believe a deal with an AAV of 6 mill +/- will get it done. We'll see if I am right.
Drury and Gomez were with no cap I believe. I'm not sure. I think so. That's when the Rangers ran wild with stupid spending. Those contracts were a lesson for other GM's not to over spend. Yet, you have some morons that still do. Dumb contracts do not set the market. They just don't. They are ignored by the smart GM's who will not let players use them as examples. Also, players like O'Reilly who are out of their minds end up getting what he just got. Traded to the crappy Sabres. Don't think Stepan didn't see that. If doesn't want to end up in some boondock town playing for nothing, he'll be reasonable. One thing the Rangers have made clear. If you ask for more than you are worth, you're going to be shown the door.
It screws up other negotiations because that's what agents look at. It angers other clubs who have free agents when crap like that happens.
It sure does Mess. And to me that is where players come into the mix. Stepan can demand a deal like ROR, which we all know is crazy and way too much for the player he is, and then he will be playing elsewhere. OR he can say I love being a NYR and take a very fair deal with an AAV around 6 mill +/-. Zucc told his agents sign a fair deal now even if I leave some money on the table. Maybe Step does the same to stay a Ranger and try to win a cup in NY, or maybe he doesn't and demands ROR money because his stats are better...then he will get it, but it will be on a lesser team I'd think. We'll see how it plays out, but no doubt deals like ROR's hurt the league when a guy is so far overpaid.
Being traded to the Sabres is a far from a bad thing. That team can be scary good in a couple of years and ROR will only be 26/27 when that happens.
For sure, that team is looking up in a couple of years. And maybe that is what Stepan wants also, and if so good for him IMO. No issue with that. Maybe the ROR deal has direct impact on the Stepan discussions, and maybe it doesn't because he wants to stay a NYR and understands to do that he cannot demand a ROR type deal. We'll see...
Those who have arbitration rights are affected by other contracts of similar skill set and or stats Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
They should trade the overrated Stepan after next year and sign E.Staal to go with Brassard, Hayes and Lindberg. That's right, i'm up at 4am to convey this very important message.
The Sabres freakin suck. They have no wings and one defenseman. That's pretty much it. I'm quite sure the dumbass Rangers will give Stepan a NTC. I hope Gorton's policy is he doesn't do that.
If you go to arbitration. If they work out a deal with Step prior to the hearing I don't see him getting an AAV of 7 mill or more. Just my opinion...we'll see.
I think an experienced arbitrator is going to take into account that the Sabres signed ROR to a 7.5 mil a year contract because they are desperate for players and are a team who needs to build up salary to reach the floor
It won't get to arbitration because if it looks like that will be the case, he'll get traded. If he has any clue, he'll realize that.
Remember, it is rare these things actually reach arbitration. I would expect it is resolved one way or another prior to arbitration. I still say we are looking at an AAV of 6 mill +/-.
That's what you call predicting something and getting bitchslapped. Shame on me for believing Stepan had enough brain power to see what happens to Rangers who are greedy. F'd that one up. Stunned he is that stupid. I honestly can't believe these Rangers players who have won nothing continue to pull this crap with an organization that has made it very clear it won't tolerate it.
It won't get to arbitration dump. Not sure you understand how it works. YES he filed for arbitration, he had to otheriwse the Rangers would control everything and he could get totally lowballed, but it will not get to the actual hearing IMO...it almost never does despite almost every player filing. This is exactly what I expected to happen.
