Former NY Yankee Joba Chamberlain designated for assignment by the Detroit Tigers. Chamberlain has struggled all season as Joakim Soria's set up man. In his last 7 games including 6 Tiger loses, he had a 14.40 ERA & allowed opponents to post a 444 batting average with 4 home runs in 5 innings.

No way. His own brain screwed him up. Somebody will probably grab him though. Maybe an NL club.

...I dunno, rick...I never bought into that being the reason...I just think he was never really that good to begin with. Like I said, I think he was just a flash in the pan...15 minutes of fame and that was it...course the bugs swarming him in the PS didn't help things either...lol

I don't know Vic, I mean "He's starter, he's a reliever, then he's a starter again but with a pitch count, then back to a reliever. That's enough to screw up anyone's head.

Per the article I read Dombrowski thinks the Tigers have a good team but changes are needed. The man is a damn good GM but he still needs to get that pen straightened out. All that good work Sanchez did against Toronto last night was almost erased last night. I never was that big on Joba either, I think he was done the night the bugs got after him during that '07 playoff game. Just don't let Cashman know he's available.

He was never right after that gruesome ankle injury where he almost detached his foot playing at that trampoline park with his kid. He never was the sharpest knife in the drawer, but comeon, literally he did pretty well for a crack baby.
He just didn't seem to have the mental toughness to succeed long term at the majors level.

    Boz forgive me.

That's what we're missing here, a few broads to put some of us guys in our places. BTW: haven't heard from Jill in sometime. Hope all is well.

When he came up he had dazzling stuff - blazing fastball and hellacious slider.

    Just lost it....weird.

Mentally I don't think he has it. Then add in TJ surgery and that bad ankle injury as well. Just never got back to his early form.

Nothing weird about it, the history of baseball is bestrewed with short-lived & highly talented careers.

Yep, bestrewed with short-lived & highly talented careers ...weirdly losing it much sooner than those others who had less "talent" and "stuff.

    Yes indeed.

sooner, lmao. based on what? your pompoms, magic 8ball, tea leaves? what does the length of his productivity have to do with it? "flash in the pan's" do not have a temporal denominator. he was good, coulda been great and then sucked. period. i will not let these semantics spin out of control. i'm done. if you are too then leave it here. otherwise, the mods have one more example where you have nothing to offer except antagonism and childish behavior.

That, and Joba never seemed to know what His Mission with the Yanx were. The eptiome of an on again off again Starter and Reliever..........to the extent Joba was bounced around, its a wonder he ever made a Roster, IMO........

    but-

that is NO excuse when he went to Detroit exclusively as a Pen Pitcher.........He just could not lay off of those watermelons right down the middle of the plate. Seems like every Tiger game I've seen in the last 2 yrs; resulted in Joba serving up a HR after another, game and game again.......Joba flat out stunk up Comerica from day one.

I've long had a good buddy, who's been to 54 Consecutive Tiger Opening Days. He was very Open Minded, when the Tigers picked up Joba, thinking perhaps Joba would catch on in Detroits Pen; but didn't at all. It only took two blown games, with Joba giving up the lead, by serving up one bomb (HR) after another...... He was pissed as hell, anytime he saw Joba coming out of the Pen. It only took Him a game or two to self destruct, ie Joba eg, not my buddy.......
