    Dear LaMarcus,

I hope you'll understand that after nine years of watching you grow as a player, cheering for you, defending you against detractors who belittled your game, celebrating the team's success, and enduring the failures and bad breaks, your decision to leave stings. A lot.

Of course I understand and can respect an athlete's decision to move on or go back home for personal reasons. What I can't respect is the way you went about it. You could have manned up last summer and told Mr. Allen and Neil Olshey of your true wishes. You could have asked for a trade to one of the Texas teams and allowed the Blazers to get fair value back. Even this summer you could have pushed for a sign and trade deal. Clyde was man enough to go that way and I repect him for it.

As it is you screwed this franchise, your remaining former teammates, and the fans who rooted for you. We have to go through yet another rebuild while you achieve your personal objectives.

So, thanks for the letter and all. It was well written by your agent's staff. You passed on being the "best Blazer ever". For that, I'm not sorry. You weren't worthy of that. If it were up to me, I would strike your name from the Blazers' record book entirely. Make it as though you were never even here.

Enjoy Texas. Can't wait to boo you next year.

I don't really understand why people release these sorts of statements. It's a ridiculous no win scenario.

This is how you write a letter...

    Dear Portland,

    All Of the Pacific Northwest and Trail Blazers Supporters Wherever You May Be Tonight;

As you now know, our former hero who deserted us this morning, is no longer a Portland Trail Blazer.

This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his "decision" unlike anything ever "witnessed" in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment.

Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us.

The good news is that the ownership team and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown Blazers have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you.

There is so much more to tell you about the events of the recent past and our more than exciting future. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be communicating much of that to you.

You simply don't deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal.

You have given so much and deserve so much more.

In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight:

"I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER 'KING' WINS ONE"

You can take it to the bank.

If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Portland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our "motivation" to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.

Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.

Sorry, but that's simply not how it works.

This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown "chosen one" sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And "who" we would want them to grow-up to become.

But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called "curse" on Portland, OR.

The self-declared former "King" will be taking the "curse" with him down south. And until he does "right" by Portland and Oregon, Aldridge (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma.

    Just watch.

    Sleep well, Portland.

Tomorrow is a new and much brighter day....

I PROMISE you that our energy, focus, capital, knowledge and experience will be directed at one thing and one thing only:

DELIVERING YOU the championship you have long deserved and is long overdue....

    Dan Gilbert

    Majority Owner

What a joke, if the fans were near and dear to his heart he would've been honest and we wouldn't be left high and dry. I do not want him to mention time in a Blazer jersey, I don't want to see pictures of him in a Blazer jersey, and I certainly don't want to hear anymore lies from him or his "people". Save it LA, you could've had fans left here in Portland but there are none now.

I think Some people need to take a time out and have some deep breaths. I hate that he left as much as the next fan, but some of the shit I've read makes it sound like he murdered your kids. (No I'm not just talking about on this forum)

Was this Batum's letter to Portland? He is the only Blazer I can think of that only materialized once every decade to play the game of basketball.

Lets not lump all rip city fans in to that... There are varying degrees of feelings towards the situation.
