Is there any comparison with the Utah Jazz roster last season to what we have now in terms of young players?

Because I think we'll be in the 30-40 win range. I don't think we'll be in the very bottom.

DWright is a free agent. Not sure if Olshey intends to re-sign him.

But yeah, Crabbe, Aminu and maybe even Pat can man the SF spot.

I look at the roster we have and think..somewhere we may have the next Whiteside or Draymond Green or Demarre Carroll...guys we didn't even really think of as great players not so long ago

Earliest pick we can trade is 2019. We could do pick swaps other years. We might have a shot at #1 this year with Simmons out there.

Adams and Barnes very likely will be paid max contracts next summer.

Any thoughts on signing Aaron Brooks?

Yeah Pat played PF in college. Defensively he has trouble staying in front of opponents and may struggle against the quicker SG but he can be physical so he might be better at SF. Not against the big LeBron, Kawhi, Melo, Durant ones but against backup SF or medicore starters he'd probably be fine.

Crabbe and Henderson are fine at SF. Aminu is oversized for SF.

We could use another SF but more as a gamble to hope the player breaks out than to pencil into a specific role.

Heck, wait till Indy cuts Young and bring him aboard. Give the fans something to root for - an underdog with local ties.

Rather target a younger player with more upside. Brooks would be good if we needed a vet to help win a couple games like last year when we signed Steve Blake. But he's not really of use this year. I don't think he'd be happy with DNP's. If we get a vet it needs to be a Kaman type that can play some but not play 5 games and be fine with it.

Idk but I believe with Pat's athleticism, he's fine at the 2 spot.

I don't know if it. was a formal change or not to the CBA (underreported if it was), but we can actually trade the 2018 pick as part of a "first allowable draft" pick language that teams have been using. So for instance, we could trade for someone this summer in return for our "first allowable draft pick", and the other teams knows it's 2018 at the earliest. But you can only have the dual protections combined for 7 years. So we couldn't do a 5 year-lotto protection on our 2016 pick, and then a 4-year lotto protection on (what could be) the 2022 pick

I think we can only offer KJ a max of the MLE since he's only been in the league 1 year. So if Houston still has their MLE they can match.

Yes and no. The Gilbert Arenas provision limits the first two years of the offer, but a large raise can be included for the third year of the offer. Then, the team matching actually has to have enough cap space to cover the average of all three years.

You may recall three years ago that Houston did this with their offers to Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik--contracts of $5M each of the first two years, but $15M for the third year. NY and CHI would each have had to use $8.3M of cap space to match those offers, and they chose not to.

Basically, we could offer KJ $20M/3y, but structure it as 5.46M/5.69M/8.85M, and then Houston wouldn't be able to use their MLE, but would have to have 6.7M of cap space to match.

I wish/hope that ur right but... I'm not feelin' that; 2 out of 3 guys that u listed r very exceptional (Carroll's a very good player, I like him a lot; it would b much more feasible for 1 of our guys to duplicate the success in ratio w/ respects to his growth) & the odds of any player getting to their level is astronomically nuts

We shoulda listened to 'tone pre-draft, he was really high on Green & wanted to draft him!

Don't get me wrong though, I like all of our guys/new guys & we're gonna love 'em & they'll all b good, some will become very good, & I think we've got @ least 1 fringe future All-Star(s)!:smiley-yup:

Should have jumped at Corey Joseph with a big offer too. Maybe we did. Raptor's beat us out.

We can't make an offer to him until July 9th because he's restricted. He must sign the offer sheet first so Houston has a chance to match. If they don't, then he's ours.

If this is true it could explain the recent inactivity.

Yeah. I think he's our target because he's exactly the baseline singles Olshey is known to hit. I don't know though because this summer has been freaky

Which is why we likely don't hear anything for several days. I think Neil is done acquire straight FA's and now has to wait for RFA offers or unbalanced trade opportunities.

Which actually are great moves if you ask me. Don't blow your load on bid wars on available FA. Swing for the fences. We can offer a Max to Kanter and 6 mil to Daniels because of our space right out the gate.
