Yep this is the same GM who sent Harden for 1 year of Kevin Martin! they already have Ibaka,Adams,McGary and Collison ffs. Why are they doing this to themselves?
I don't want him on the roster if he's making the max. Theres a reason Utah wen't from one of the worst teams in the league to one of the best when he left. OKC point differential was much better when he was on the bench. DeAndre, LMA, Monroe, Love, Lopez, Millsap, Kawhi, Bulter were the only free agents who got paid the max. Kanter isn't close to the level of those players. Giving him the max would be a classic panic move a crappy franchise does when they lose out on the best free agents. NO THANKS.
Think of it this way; OKC two best players are Durant and Westbrook neither of whom are big men. Why would we sign their 5th best big man to a max contract? Ibaka, Adams, McGary and Collision are all superior players. A move like this would turn our offseason from bad with a bit of promise into a total disaster.
Balance... Sign Kanter for his 20/10 potential with efficient shooting. Sign KJ McDaniels for his lockdown defense potential: LINK
Aminu and Davis are fairly good rim protectors inside, but they are not real skilled offensively. A post threat would be good for this team. And if they match, at least we forced them to pay top dollar.
This. We either land him or it forces OKC to spend big the summer before they have to throw HUGE money to keep KD.
And remember that Kanter just turned 23 years old. He came into the league when he was 19. Not many big men have that much offensive skill at that age.
I really don't see why we shouldn't offer him a max contract. There's literally no reason to not use all of our cap-space. If they match, who cares? We made them pay 16 million a year for Kanter.
This is probably true. We have no choice guys. IF we suck with them on board then we still have a high draft pick and we can always trade them\buy them out. Plumlee Kanter McDaniels CJ Dame Now it's starting to look like a starting 5.
I just noticed our free agency is like losing your hot girlfriend (fuck that bish, who needs here anyway), then going to a club-->target the hottest girl there-->fail--->peruse a fat drunk chick at the end of the night(--->fail?).
Why? For this season, probably no reason. The catch is that we are talking a 4 year deal. In future seasons we will almost certainly find a better use for the money. It isn't that the guy is worthless....but he isn't good enough to justify panicking and grossly over-paying.
The cap is going up, we're going to have even more capspace next year. There's no point holding on to that - especially when no one wants to come to Portland anyways. There's no best or worst case scenario. Making OKC pay a shit ton (and possibly lose Durant or WB) is a good outcome, you weaken a conference rival. Getting Kanter is even better, since he's a talent, and god knows this team is lacking talent. Even if you believe he's a net zero, or a net negative right now, he's only 23, and fits the mold of the young and talented players they have been targeting since you know who packed his bags.
16 mil a season will be like 13 mil when the cap hike hits. I'm not advocating the signing of Kanter because part of me doesn't want a shitty defense center. But I think he's definitely worth 12-13 mil in today's NBA.
Seems like most of this board was on board with signing Greg Monroe, but Kanter is even better offensively than Monroe.
