My thought process: (1) Holy crap, the ghost of Kirk Hinrich is slotted as the backup point guard, and he looked done a half decade ago. I get that you should always draft the best talent available, but the Bulls have nobody now to eat minutes at the position. Please, please, please tell me that we won't have to watch Kirk Hinrich dribble the ball for sixteen seconds, before looking to institute the offense. The Bulls don't need a good backup point guard, just one that can almost guard the position, can institute the offense and still has both knees intact. (2) Does Andre Miller still have both knees intact?
Kirk Hinrich is back baby. Deal with it. Hinrich plans to do a limbo thing with his usage % this season. He posted a 13.3% usage last season, which is insanely low for a guard, and he's looking to see "how low he can go" in 2015-16...Don't miss it.
I didn't realize his usage was so low. I would love to see some stat which showed usage percentage divided by percentage of time with the ball in your hands. Hinrich would probably be historically low.
Hinrich is pretty much useless. Its hard to think of a "face of the franchise" guy that has become so hated in the twilight of his career on the Bulls. Once again, why did they give him the player option? That has to be an all-time bonehead move by the front office.
Easy - he's got a position lined up with the Bulls for after his playing days are done, same as KG has with the Wolves.
Awarding the contract in the first place was bad. The killer? Refusing to use the MLE on a serviceable backup to replace him, heaven forbid the franchise pays the luxury tax. It's not even really Hinrich's fault; it's ownership's for refusing to pay for a solution.
So, it looks like Kirk's added year also puts the Bulls into tax territory. So, some move will likely be made to get under, likely Taj Gibson. As a Bulls fan, I know that this ownership group isn't going to be a big spender tax wise. Its terrible when they will trade away good to great players to not pay tax, yet still make terrible decisions like giving Hinrich a player option that puts the team into tax territory. Its enough to frustrate me, until I think of all the great wearable tech the guys will be sporting this year.
