Blazers need a backup PG at this point. Calathes a RFA will at least add some defense and toughness to the backcourt. Wouldn't be the worst option off the bench.
Yeah, were definitely going to need to upgrade the backup PG spot. Watching Frazier, he aint gonna get it done. Nice player. But dude has trouble getting his shot off. Too small.
His Kid n Play cover band is pretty busy but he's probably still available for a corporate function if you give him 4 weeks' notice.
Frazier should watch old Spud Webb vids on Utube. Surely he is at least an inch taller. He is fresh to this level. Maybe he will surprise us and excel like Iverson did. Question?? Could Cougington(sp) or Crabbe play point as well as SG?
I think Sergio Rodriguez or Donald Sloan are the best options right now, If not them - Jameer Nelson.
Sergio!!!!!! Even though he's a Roy era player, he would reverse jinx the bad mojo because he was traded unfairly!
I'm ok with Dame/Tim/CJ of we bring in anyone a cheap vet as a mentor locker room guy. Ridnour maybe.
I'd love me some Sergio on this team. But How old is he, what is he making in Spain, does he want to come off the bench, and would Olshey and Stotts want to cut into CJs time? He may not fit Olsheys criteria. We don't need this Calathes guy. The Blazers want to run CJ at point to get the ball in his hands against other teams second stringers. Plus after OKC matches (or trades with us) we are getting Augustine.
Sergio's only 29, but he just signed an extension with Rudy and Real Madrid through 2018. Not sure if we can even buy him out if he wanted to.
Ill give my opinion of last nights game in the proper thread, but I think this will work. I was fairly impressed with Frazier if you consider everything.
I was hoping to see something from Frazier yesterday, a skill he has that maybe he wasn't able to show in limited minutes last season. Already knew he can't shoot, but you figure he'd show some flashes in summer league vs. D League type talent. Best you can say is he has intangibles of being a gritty hustler & he's got a high motor. But there's just not a lot of talent there. We need to get a decent b/u PG, even if it's an older mentor type like Jameer Nelson. Somebody that can give you quality minutes & run an offense. It's one thing to rebuild & go with youth, but nobody wants to get beat by 25 every night. I'd even take another year of Blake vs. watching Frazier's jump passes get picked off & his shots at the rim get sent into the 3rd row. Am I missing something with this guy? He just doesn't look like an NBA player to me.
Did you watch the game? We didn't get beat by 25. Frazier and his penetration and kickout was a large part of our second half come back. Dude almost had a triple double. He is young like most. Dont think you are seeing his ceiling now. Like almost everyone on this new roster, they will need tutilege and coaching as they progress. I saw the potential as a decent back up PG as long as he grows as to be expected with his youth and getting familiar with the NBA.
Watched the whole game. Maybe I'm being too critical of the kid, but I expected to see more than a few nice penetration & kick outs. Besides the turnovers, the clanked FTs, having his shots blocked, & the amount of time he spent on the floor, he doesn't pass the eye test. If you're an undersized defensive liability who doesn't doesn't shoot well or excel at getting to the rim, you've at least got to take care of the ball. I hope you're right & I'm wrong about him. I still want a vet b/u PG as insurance.
The more we debate over which garbage players we should pursue, the more I'm starting to turn against Olshey.
