850k. Add him to the list of guys who will need a new contract next year along with Kreider, Hayes and Yandle. Lindberg signed 2 yr/650k per. Dumping Glass for him saves almost a mil and it's mind-boggling it hasnt happened yet.
Agree 100%. He played no role on this team...added no consistent physical presence and was weak along boards. He's not paid to score but 6pts in 66 games is a f'n joke. More importantly, his lack of consistent hard play set the tone for the other bottom six to play soft along side him. All you need is one or two bangers/grinders on your team and others follow. When you have none, others will not step up.
Other players aren't intimidated by Glass so it's really pointless having him take up a spot. Even Dorsett and Asham had more of a edge out there. Basically it was shortsighted not bringing Carcillo back. Lindberg at 650k for two years is great value, and Etem has Kreider-like potential without quite the physicality.
For the record I don't think anyone in here likes or defends Glass, we all know he is awful and we all want him gone. We all said that was a terrible contract the second it was signed (still baffled why we needed to give him 3 years). I think most of us try and keep it in persepctive though and say he is the 12th forward, we have bigger things to focus on.
I think it's more the fact they stupidly gave him 3y more than him being an awful player. I don't see many other teams having done that.
In a way I disagree. I think the role he is supposed to play is a key role. His role is to put in tough shifts, protect his teammates when necessary and forecheck the hell out of the other D and be an "in your face" player. A guy like that can have an impact on others. Think of the role Matt Martin has with the Isles...making guys like cizikas and clutterbuck more brave. His play was piss poor most of season. Again, not a make or break roster spot but someone else must be found to take on that role.
The role he is supposed to fill can certainly be a plus if you have the right player there, no doubt. He is awful. The 3 year deal was ridiculous. I think we all agree on those things. But I just don't think we will win or lose a cup based on our 12th forward. Just my opinion. And we don't have to play him. Sit him in favor of Moore/Stalberg/Lindberg on the 4th line. Send him down to save 950 K. We have options even with his awful deal, issue is AV loves the guy so it it what it is.
